Good luck Ken! Miss those days in ND hunting over field decoys back in the early 80's.

I used to love duck and goose hunting.  Haven't done it in years now.

Rough opener for us even though it was a perfect cool, overcast, low wind and no rain morning. I had some chances but I should have hit the range a few more times…lol

Ducks completely stopped flying around 8am for us which seemed odd given the day and the amount of hunters around us. And for some reason, the coots were flying. 🤷‍♂️

Back from Canada last night. Hunting was awesome. 3 of us hunted 4 days and shot 254 Geese and ducks. The final day a farmer friend hunted with us and we limited with 80. Could have shot more as they were landing in our decoys while we were picking up to quit. Snow geese had one of the best hatches I've ever seen. Lots of young.

We were going to hunt Canadas yesterday on our final day as we had a field lined up with a couple hundred in it. But it was raining and we said the heck with it, we have enough. Time to head for home. :happy1: :happy1: :happy1:

Ken,

Do you hunt with a guide? That sounds like an absolute blast! Always wanted to try a Canada duck hunt, just wouldn’t know where to start.

Here are some photos. No, I have been hunting snows in ND and Canada for 60 years. Have no Idea how many we have shot. I lived in ND for 35 years and have been going to Canada since 1992....31 years. I have NEVER used a guide. Always our own decoys.

I just finishing breasting them out. Plus kept 20 goose legs.

I make summer sausage, jerky, and lots of pepperoni sticks.

How tough is it to get in with a farmer up there?  (I realize you probably been with the same guy for quite a while.)

Do they typically charge an access fee or are they just happy to have those critters removed from their land?

We pay no access fees. But we have been hunting with the same farmers for 30 years and they save their land for us. And them and their kids sometimes hunt with us. Most are mainly concerned with big game hunting.

Farmers up there mainly hunt Deer, Elk, and Moose. 2 of their wife's both shot big Elk Bulls while we were there. Moose and deer wasn't open yet.

We have been to weddings while up there.

Leave for Sask this Sunday. Ken you Hunting the snows just lying out in whites? Running any rotary machines? I finally saved up for a snow spread about 500 silosocks, rotary machine, few flappers and an ecaller.

Good LucK

We laid on the ground in whites. Had our limits in 45 min to 1 hour after shooting started. Passed up several flocks each day before legal shooting.

The key clearly was the amount of young in the flocks and being in the field they wanted. Shot about 50-50 Snows and Ross.
