Nice to have ringside seats this time around.  They keep talking about flooding on the Mississippi but it could be worse if the south central & southeastern part of the state not sent most of their snowpack downstream already. Soils going into the winter were relatively dry too so  with the frost out, it can still hold some rainfall or snow melt. The Red? That's always just a flood waiting to happen.

Birds are hammering the feeders so they know weather is coming.

Dotch I was talking about flooding on the Rainy river and lakes like we had last spring.

Right after the snow storm our temps turn to the 50's.  It will be wet as heck for awhile melting that snow.

Anybody concerned about flooding again this year?

Living near Fargo, If we get the snow as expected..... a foot or more, they are expecting a top 5 in history flood.

I'm looking at it more from a statewide perspective. I've been watching the TC TV "blowcombs" as Cannon used to call them. They care only about the Twin Cities and their vacation homes when it comes to flooding. We'll be spared as will much of southern MN for the reasons I mentioned previously. The Le Sueur, tributary to the MN River, is up locally but it goes down quickly when the snowmelt is complete, barring heavy rains. I didn't get my earlier season trip across the creek into Canada last year until after all that went down. However, in late July last year, the Big Fork River was still up substantially at Big Falls where we stop to pee at the campgrounds. The fall before the river had been just a trickle relative to what it can be. At I Falls and under the causeway, the Rainy was still very high on that trip as I recall. At any rate, like the Red which impacts agriculture more, water has to flow north where it's often still frozen to get to its destination. Sorta bassackwards when it comes to ideal for a watershed in the spring.

Just started raining here... :coffee:

The people living along the Red River and especially its tributaries coming from the east in Minnesota will have major flooding.

Taken from the campground at Big Falls. Top one is the Big Fork on Oct. 21, 2021 & bottom one is on July 21, 2022.

Here's another link I found some might be interested in regarding stream flow when I was looking for soil moisture info:

My buddy Billy took these from the same general area on May 10, 2022. He was flying solo on that trip. From his text he said it was the highest he'd ever seen it dating back to the early 70's.

That's an angry looking river! Looking at next week's forecast isn't gonna help either.  These parts will see 3 days in the mid 60's with mid 70's following it. Hmmm looks like the patio furniture might make its way out this weekend.   :happy1:

It's dumping here.  About 3" coming down horizontal with this wind.   Roads just got really nasty too.  Garage time.

Glenn, took my buddy from the cities along with his wife on a tour last year. He shot that photo. I had it printed on a slate, one for me and one for him. I haven't found a way to hang it yet it's kinda heavy.
