on the average of three feet of solid ice here in itasca co.
I was able to scratch away inch of loose ice on top of the ice sheat with the cleats on my boots. plenty of water on top, but the way it was draining yesterday, I'm thinking it will be mostly gone today.

free tip, fish around the areas of the washout holes right after these periods of run off. the fish often gather at or near these areas. this is the times I have found them right below the ice.
not allways, but allways worth a look see.

We still have pretty good ice here, in the north metro, but it is pulling away from shore and it's starting to open up more at all of the inlets and outlets. 
There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot
