Didn't watch the game. My love for Fleck won't allow me to. Still amazes me that the guy came in, sold the fans a bill of goods, can't deliver a watchable winning product, yet is treated like he is something special.

His job is to put a entertaining product on the field that wins. A by product is kids who go to school, stay out of jail, and graduate. Does he do those things? Maybe. Is there anybody else that can do that? Most certainly.

So, has anybody else noticed how he has ratcheted back on all the hype and BS?

Oh well, it really doesn't matter. I don't like the guy. Won't like the guy even if he would win something other than a 7th rate bowl game. He reminded me of a Carney who escaped from a county fair when he was hired. Now he just reminds me of a con man who has pulled the wool over peoples eyes.

Carry on.   :rotflmao:

I've got agree, dutchy.  I will admit that I did watch a good share of the 1st 1/2 & it didn't take me very long to realize that it looked like PJ had another over-hyped, under achieving, middle of the division team.  I decided that watching the Tigers beat the NYY was more fun later on & didn't catch much of the 2nd 1/2. ;)

He does seem a little calmer on the sidelines.  Maybe it is cuz he is older.

And more experienced.  I'm sure he's learning what works for him and what doesn't.

Minnesota is a tough place to recruit college athletes to, I don't care what Sid Hartman used to say.  This is a pro sports town and college standouts are small fish in a big pond.

I was only able to watch the last few minutes of the first half then off and on in the second half. This looks like SSDD where they'll struggle to win more than a couple B1G games given their schedule. It is hard to recruit for the U and that's what usually happens when push comes to shove. Oh sure, you may get a stud or two but the depth on the football teams just isn't there.

He does have a winning record after 6 seasons......44 and 27. But only 26 and 26 in the Big Ten. Could be better yes, especially in the conference. But hardly a disaster. And will get tougher when USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon join the conference.

I don't understand the premise it's hard to recruit here. The ONLY thing Mpls can't offer is a high chance of going to the NFL. They play a typical U of M offense. Boring. With little to no imagination for the most part. Wanna stand out in the Big 18, spread the offense, sling the ball from sideline to sideline. The reason it's hard to recruit is because when push comes to shove every recruitable kid in the United States knows they will get pushed around by the top teams in the big 18. If North Dakota can draw and win national titles shouldn't the U be able to also?

It'll take a change at Morrill Hall for that to happen Dutchy. A lot harder to get into and keep kids eligible at the U than NDSU, especially once they did away with general college and university without walls. A lot more ways and places to get into trouble than in Fargo. They could do it if they wanted to but they've been living in the past for 60 years. Talked to recent grad from the U and the administrators at Morrill Hall were still pulling the same old crap as they did 42 years ago when I graduated. Given the current political climate in MN, no chance any of that will change anytime soon.

There is something else... attention.

The best prospects seem to prefer going to programs where the entire community worships the ground the football team walks on.  :cheerleader: :cheerleader:

Here, most Minnesotans couldn't name 3 players on the team.   :pouty:

Does P.J. count?

That is the other reason U of M can't recruit top football talent to MN.  College football is all about the coaches, and Minnesota won't ante up to pay for overpay for the very best.  Down in ACC land, they can't think of ways fast enough to spend all the money that is coming into the football programs.  Here, not so much, and recruits see the difference.  Less money, fewer wins, less exposure, less attention...  "I think I'll take my talents to the ACC or Ohio or Madison or Iowa where I'll be appreciated."
