Would be nice if we could figure out how to watch the Twinkies out here in the land of rocks and cows. They have no idea how much that hurt their popularity in the hinterlands.
The hinterlands don't matter, Dotchie ol' boy...  Minneapolis is where its at!   :rotflmao:

My Mavs lost 2-1 in the second OT. Cornell beat Michigan State.

Maddening. Rodents give up 3 goals in the 3rd. Could smell this coming a mile away when they took their foot off the gas. Come back to tie & head into OT where you just assume they'll 💩 the bed somehow.

Just gave a quick look at the MSU/WMU box scores. Looks like it was an intense game. Only 3 penalties in the game. MSU goalie stopped 42 SOG. The game lasted 87 minutes, 14 seconds.
I'm still a proud Mavs fan.

I'll give him credit for 2 natty's, but Donnie had some of the same issues towards the last. Just no killer instinct to keep the heat on them & put the other team away. Becoming part of the B1G didn't help. As one guy pointed out, that may be the result of going after all MN kids. Sure, they're good players but the knock is a lot of them are soft, not tough like the Canadian Jr. players a lot of these other teams have. I think you could have a nice blend of the two but keep that in mind when you go after players to build the team, especially now with NIL $ in the mix. With 14 or 16 NHL draft picks on this team, there's just no good reason they shouldn't be dominating with the right coaching. With Motzko, while he's not the guy on the ice, he's still the guy recruiting these kids, calling the shots when they are on the ice & is ultimately responsible.

Sure, they got hosed on a lot of calls last nite & I still don't get what was up with the goalie's equipment malfunction. Why wasn't there a time out to allow it to be remedied? Things went south from there. Regardless, you still shouldn't be allowing a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period to slip away given all that talent. Laying on the ice hoping for a penalty after the last no-call cost them the game. Been watching Gopher hockey a long time. Remember back to the days of Owatonna's Noel Jenke. If someone hit him, he'd beat the ever living crap out of them. Or even if they didn't. :rotflmao: The days of Herbie were very special too. Those teams were tough but they had a unique blend of finesse and toughness. Wooger's teams had a lot of the same even though it took Donnie to finally get the job done. Need to rediscover that kind of mettle somehow. Be interesting to see if Coyle makes a move. I see Darby Hendrickson is one name being floated about since hiring MN alumni is a recurring theme. Tortorella is another one who while no MN ties & is older (66) has strong NHL connections. We shall see...  :coffee:

The Lucia days is when I watched the most, great games and rivalries in the WCHA, pretty impressive the one yr all frozen  four team's came from the WCHA. Two yrs ago ( I'm guessing) when we sat back on a lead and lost the the championship game on Motzko's watch with that much talent,  I lost all respect for him as a coach, havnt hardly watched a game since. They dump him for Darby? That's a step backwards,  I did cartwheels when the Wild finally sent him packing.  Tortorella has been around quite a while but not sure if College is in his deck of cards..

Not saying I'm a fan of either one, only repeating some names cropping up as I peruse some of the comment sections. Just have never been able to get into the Wild. I was a North Star fan until they left. I still stick pins in my Norm Green doll to this day. Sounds like they may keep Bob around for another year but he's definitely on the hotseat if they do. The 1st time against Quinnipiac I could forgive but after this latest 💩-ing the bed & the games leading up to it, no more.

I agree Dotch.....Northstars fan here also. Then the traitors went to Dallas and dropped the word North. I really Hate that team now. I always hope they lose every game.

Same goes for the Lakers. I was a big George Mikan fan. At least they could have changed their name when they went to LA. Calling a Southern California team the Lakers is a JOKE.
Always hope they lose every game now also

From a guy who doesn't know nothing my take is a lot was lost when they left the WCHA. There were much more intense games against better teams every weekend. They were always playing against their buddys' who weren't quite good enough to get recruited at the U. It was play-off intensity all season long. Now they snooze through the big money conference and seldom seem ready for the play-offs. Maybe it's Motzko although I don't think so. While he gets good players he the U no longer gets to pick and choose the pick of the litter. There are many very good players who would rather stay home and play at St. Cloud, Mankato, Duluth & Bemidji. Thats my take on it anyway.

I find it hard to believe that a change in conference members has that big of an effect on how players or coaches perform. Winning attitudes breed winning records regardless of conference rivalries. Every athlete has to prove to himself or herself, the coaches and the fans, that they deserve a starting position on the team.

Good or bad, many also want to prove to scouts from other teams that they would be a good addition to their team through the transfer portal. Athletes also want to be more visible to pro scouts, if that is their objective.

May be that most kids dream of growing up and playing for the home town team.

I do believe that the leading scorer for MSU Mankato this year was a portal transfer from the University of Minnesota. Would he have scored 40 goals this season had he stayed at the U? We will never know. Did he make the right choice for his career? That's a question only he can answer. Another Mavs player is a transfer from Notre Dame. Same questions there.

I won't begin to pretend to be an expert on the transfer portal or the NIL rules. But, it's my opinion that these might be an issue. Plenty of arguments about the pros and cons of these programs. It must depend on if you're an athlete, coach, fan or a member of the school booster club. There may be no one good answer.
