Oh ya that one.  She is kind of cute.  SO Catlain Clark went to Europe for an bunch of millions?  Now that babe that didn't like her is begging for her to come back I heard.  Ratings will dump without Clark here.  Is that the jist of things???

 I haven't seen anything on Clark going to Europe. Quite a few WNBA players have been playing in Europe ever since the league started as the seasons are at different times & it's a way for them to make more money. That's how Brittney Griner ended up in a Russian prison.

  • Twins fan.
With the endorsement deals she signed I doubt she needs to play in Europe.

You made me curious db, so I checked it out. She has a deal with Nike that's for 8 years @ $3.5 mil/per. She also has a deal with Under Armour for $4 mil/per & another with Adidas for $1.5 mil/per, both those are for 4 years. The list I found had another 10 companies she has signed deals with.

The WNBA Player's Association opted out of their CBA yday. They have 'til the end of next season, 10/25/25, to get a new deal done or there could be a lockout.

They'll figure out how to shoot themselves in the foot.  In negotiating a new CBA, the players will demand more than the owners want to give, there will be a lockout, which will kill the momentum of a league growing in popularity.

 Why now?

A big reason why players are optimistic the new agreement could include their priority provisions is because of the new media rights deal. The current media deal is valued at about $60 million per season, but the 11-year deal signed in July with Disney, Amazon Prime, and NBC is valued for around $200 million a season, beginning in 2026. That number could increase given the possibility of agreements with additional partners.
In addition, the league is set for significant expansion, with the Golden State Valkyries joining in 2025, and unnamed teams from Portland and Toronto.

And, this past season, viewership and attendance numbers are the highest they’ve ever been. According to the WNBPA news release, viewership on ESPN was up 170% and attendance was at a 22-year high, with a 48% increase from 2023. The WNBA playoffs also boasted multiple games with more than a million viewers, with Game 2 of Indiana-Connecticut reaching $2.5 million viewers.

I saw a post that highlighted what the players want.  I think they are nice talking points, but the bottom line will be, how big is the player's piece of the pie in that $200/season TV deal along with all the other revenue streams?   :woot:

Under the old CBA the WNBAPA was entitled 10% of all league revenue. The NBAPA currently gets 50% of all league revenue. Since the WNBA launched in 1996, the NBA has helped get it off the ground. While the league doesn't fully fund the women's organization, it provides some financial help. Currently, the NBA owns 50% of the WNBA. The other 50% is spread out across the owners of the franchises.

:tut: Caitlin Clark isn't going anywhere & she's already said so. During a recent interview, Caitlin Clark announced a final decision on this matter as she made it clear that she is quite happy in the WNBA.

The new 3-on-3 league, Unrivaled, wants Clark real bad, So bad that that they're rumored to be ready to offer her $1 million for their 3-month season, plus future partial ownership, along with a pc of the TV revenue. However, most believe she will turn it down as she has been playing basketball since August of her Senior year & has said publicly more than once that she needs a break.
