Tough news for Bemidji.   I reckon we all have (at best) mixed opinions about "private equity outdoor companies" and what they do to outdoor brands we've grown loyal to.  (Remington )

Yeah, John Peterson did his best for the community, but after he'd sold controlling interest in Northland to Big Fish America, all he could really do was advise in the final sale.  I'd say John had a sound exit strategy for himself in the business he built.  He made sure it would stay where it was as long as he was running it, and after that, ya kinda have to hope to for the best.

Bad news!  Northland had quality stuff and the colors of their packaging was attractive to shoppers too. Now I don't think I will continue to buy their products.

Yeah, that was what I liked best about Northland tackle - that it was local.  (* sigh *)

It pretty much became a local packaging business when John sold it.  Nothing was being made there at all.  On the first sale they got rid of some good people who helped build it.  Now they are competing against them because others seen their worth or they opened their own companies.
