I have been doing a lot of my licensing online the last few years.  Was at the County license bureau recently.  I know them well.  He said that when I buy from the County that each transaction brings in $9 for them.  SO now I try to do most of mine in person at the County.

Not sure who you talked to there but I call  :bs: :bs:    Having been a store owner, when you buy a license from a store it actually cost the store money if you buy nothing else.  For a fishing/hunting license they are paid $1.00 from that license.   They pay a kid $12-15/hour and it takes him/her about 10-15 minutes from start to finish, they have to get the computer with WIFI hooked up to it from the state, have to provide a counter space for that computer, have to order and have a place to keep the rule books they are required to have as they are not allowed  to sell them without offering the books.

Not sure what the county lic centers make off vehicle tabs and stuff but if you do the math it still does not come out as profitable at $9.00 when you do wages plus benefits vs time spent for the transaction.

 so....from what i'm reading on IDO...... sounds like ya can get your license online now........ so go ahead boober give your 3 bucks to that guy over in India!!!!! :sleazy:  :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :mooning:

This is how rumors start.  If they use PayIt like they are proposing they are based in Kansas City, KS.  This was started by a guy who must have went to a place like Beltrami County License center to get his tabs.  He stood in line forever when all he wanted do was  buy his tabs.    A lot of states are using them as their platform for fishing/hunting licenses.

Having multiple state licenses I have ordered all of mine except my MN lic online.  I keep them on my phone as "most" states this is all that is required.  I even take a pic of my MN lic and have been checked.  Pull it up, show them the license on the phone and good to go.

No disrespect intended there LPS but guessing he based that off vehicle tags and stuff.  But even still if you do the math at $9.00 there is still no money to be made in it.   How long did the entire process take and you have to include the BSing time in there too.    I'm not saying get rid of them but sure not a profit maker for the local counties.  That and if you ever what an experience try buying  tabs in Beltrami at times.  Allow yourself at least an hour to get your tabs.

I get all of that.  There is a reason a LOT of places quit selling lic.  The computer you speak of is a special computer and printer.  Not just a desk top.  It is a designated system.   It is used as a lost leader to get people to come in with hopes they buy something else.   But surprising how many do not.

:happy1: :happy1: guess i never noticed...... i know that little store in spring lake used to sell licenses. and they'd register critters. DEE the owner at the time told me the DNR took her ability to sell licenses away..she really didnt say why..........my guess was she didnt sell or register enough animals.

kinda sucked for us now we gotta drive 14 miles round trip.

You do know that I am saying, that if I walk into the local County license bureau that the County gets $9 for the transaction of licensing that vehicle.

I was not sure what they are making of vehicle stuff.  I was more referring to fishing/hunting stuff.

I'll have to say when we were younger, part of the fun of Deer camp was running the deer in to get registered at the small town gas stations.  You could get a pop, chips and snickers, see other people's deer big and small and listen to all the old guys tell stories about hunting, the woods, Wolve and bear sightings. It was a great time for us.  Yes, registering on your cell phone right from your stand is convenient, just not as fun for kids!   :pouty:

But you have to register the deer online as soon as possible, yes?  And for a lot of folks, if you have a smart phone and cell service, that can pretty much be at the kill site - but I am fuzzy on just how soon after you are obliged to register it.

I reckon if a conservation officer stopped you and you had some dead deer lying there, he could get on line, access your account, and determine if you had valid, open tags for each of your deer - regardless of whether or not you printed out those tags on a sheet of paper.

I may be the odd ball but I'm glad it's going online. Unlike Glenn...I've never had a hot clerk ring me up! LOL

However, I've had horror stories from the 16y/o kid who don't give AF though.  I bought my turkey tag at a gas station last spring on the way up to hunt. The paper ran out mid print... He told me to go to another gas station and have them print it out. The system thought I had a tag even though it didn't print on. I told him that would cost me more money (duplicate license). He just shrugged his shoulders. I told him to just replace the paper. He said he didn't know how. 30 minutes later, I walk him through on how to replace a simple roll of paper.

I also had an agent at FF sell me the wrong deer tag one year after they switched the system up. It was very difficult to remedy. Now they confirm everything with you and some actually show you the screen before they submit it.

Now, with online tags, I can see what I'm buying, print multiple copies (I keep one in my boat, tackle box, truck, and wallet), and now just keep it on my phone.

No service? Who cares. WY and MT have figured that out years ago. The App keeps all the info stored so you don't need service.

Not being political here, but it takes the MN bureaucracy forever to replace a system - especially if it involves software.  Think vehicle licensing MNLARS.   :surrender:

I buy my boat, SxS,and car licenses on line.  It’s a few extra bucks, but there’s no wait in line. Just like going into a bank, it seems like I have a simple quick transaction, and everyone in front of me has some kind of complicated issue that needs o be worked out. If you do need to go to a license center you can make online appointments which helps.

One cold early January day, I bought cross country trail licenses by phone. I had to pay a few bucks extra for them, too, but it was a lot cheaper than driving to town. The woman I talked to was in Tennessee.

I have a lifetime fishing license and a lot of store clerks are pretty clueless on how to handle that.
