Used to catch eels on the St. Croix off the back of my houseboat whilst catfishing.  The would look me right in the eye at 2 am and hiss like heck.  Spooky as heck.  Definitely had a good strong needle nose right there.   Never did try to eat one but people do.

Ya never know what yer goona catch on the Croix.  You can catch 8 or 10 differed species in one evening without moving all that far.

Some people actually need to read the book.  One of the things that went into effect this year was the placing fish on the ice while fishing.  For years many would catch or spear a fish and throw them out on the ice.   Because to many were being left those days are gone. People are all bent when they get a ticket for it but its clearly stated in the regs.

 now that you mention it, i do remember that became a law, but i dont ever recall fish left on ice when people left the area much?  maybe cause i typically dont fish on busy lakes.

when i spearchuck, i do use my door on the fishhouse to help remove a fish from the spear and do let it lay outside for a while............BUT i friggin hate cleaning frozen fish so i always put it inn a gunny sack and back inside soon after!!!!

panfish.....always in da pail inside!!!! :happy1:

I like to cut the gills and throw them on the ice to bleed out.  Then throw in a pail when I leave.

Sounds like those days are done.   Had a guy fishing crappie and he was just throwing them on the ice while hole hopping with every intention of grabbing his bucket and picking them up.  That cost him some money.  Some ruin it for all.

How hard is it to bring a bucket wether hole hopping or not. Ours are always in a pail, some added slush I feel keeps em that much fresher..

I totally agree.  Besides that not everyone can see what ya got either.   Bite is always "pretty slow".
