I know we talked about it a while back in the morning thread but thought I'd start a new one. Momma had a 60% off at miracle ear so brought my last hearing test with today and got tested again, failed miserably, my ears ring pretty friggen bad. Anywho even with the discount it was 4 grand out the door. Couple good features everything is streamable to the aids, t.v. music, if the phone rings it automatically goes to that.  Looking forward to it, pick them up Friday, but sounds like they'll fine tune them then. No more tuning momma out... :pouty:

Ya they ain't cheap. I envy the vets, they can get them for free in certain circumstances.  Mike....  :happy1: With streaming momma can have the t.v. at her level and won't affect mine. The big test is the home and garden show coming up, lotsa people and noise.

I’ve had tinnitus for years plus some frequencies that I can’t hear. I blame that on gun shots from my youth.  The ringing is either getting worse or I’m paying more attention to it, so I went to an audiologist last week. She confirmed the loss  at certain frequencies so I go back in a few weeks for a hearing aid consult.

Not sure what I’ll do yet. I almost got a 4F when. I took a draft physical years ago, and I don’t think my hearing has really changed, at least not much. The only problem I have is with my wife, who will ask me a question in a normal tone of voice while facing into a corner of the house, on a different floor, at the opposite end of the house, and then tell me “you need a hearing aid.”
I mentioned the ringing to my regular doctor years ago, and he suggested that I turn up the radio.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Good one.  Ya I need them too.  If you are on Medicare there is a Tru Hearing that is affiliated with them.  I have talked to 2 people now that got $7,000 hearing aids and only had to pay $1,500 out of pocket.   BUT just another story.  I sure hope yours work.  That is the big thing.  Can't wait to hear from you.  LOLOL   Truly, I am.

I got mine a month or so ago.  i had a big drop off in high frequencies.  The hearing aid adjustments went something like thus.

First she boosted the high frequencies till it was almost uncomfortably loud and had me wear em for 2 weeks to get used to them.  After 2 weeks, same thing.  2 weeks later boosted again and my prescription is dialed in, 'cept with this last boost, high freqs are uncomfortably loud again and I'm in another adjustment period.

She told me that if she'd gone straight to full perscription strength right out of the chute, i wouldn't have tollerated them well and might not have worn them all the time.  Brains need time to adjust.

It is amazing how obnoxiously loud potato chip bags are, polyester clothes rubbing against each other, or even just taking a leak.  On the plus side, I can hear more songbirds again.

Any of you fellers that got em already go thru a similar experience?

Oh yeah, an I hear my own voice thru the hearing aids and it sounds like my voice on a tape recorder.  Weird.  And everyone else sounds like they are talking with a pukey "radio announcer" voice with a Minnesota accent.

And then when I take em out, it is amazing how muffled the sound is.

Good luck. I hope they work out great.
Surprisingly, I don't need them yet but I'm having a terrible time adjusting to dentures. I can't stand them things.
I used to be cute and adorable. Then, I had my first birthday. Been downhill ever since.

Good info SteveO.  Like I said I need them too.  But like Bobb said if the wife looked at me when she is talking I could hear her better.   I have other important things that I want so keep pushing the aids to the back burner.

Appreciate the info Steve-O & best of luck boober with yours. Keep us informed as some of us can probably use the info to our advantage. Many moons of loud rock & roll, fieldwork & especially fall plowing when my ears would ring for several hours after I got off the tractor. Almost everything is noise in crowds & if the wife is yapping on the phone, I can't understand what's on TV.

Even at noon the wife is looking away from me and almost whispering.  I asked he to look at me when she is talking to me.  She smiled and spoke up some.  She has said before, how can you hear geese so far away but you can't hear the TV and I have to interpret it for you.  LOL   I enjoy saying did he say that???   Something spicy of course.  She scolds me then and we both laugh.

I have had hearing aids for quite a few years. Lots of gun shots and playing in band. Paid $6-7,000 for a pair. Plus had to buy batteries. They had 3 settings. Worked OK. Used a TV streamer  for another couple hundred that sat next to the speaker on the TV.
A year or so ago I went to Costco and checked out theirs. Cost me $1500 Plus $100 for a TV streamer. These are rechargeable. No more buying batteries. :happy1:
The streamer on these can be set by the TV also. BUT also are able to plug right into the TV. The volume control is on an app on my phone. Like having headphones on. Everything is in stereo. With the room lights off and a large screen TV.....Watching a movie with explosions and car chases....It's like being in a theater. :happy1: But then only I can hear it.
That's OK. Since my wife watches her own programs on her TV.
Good service at Costco's Hearing Service in the store. They also clean them whenever I go to the store.
These can be set louder or softer. Great since riding in a vehicle with a lot of road noise can be turned down. Yet turned back up when talking or listening to someone.

All in all a great price compared to going to a Hearing Aid store.

That's good to know Rookie, believe Cooper mentioned also Costco on Aids, and I kept that as an option just didn't realize even with a discount they'd be as high as I spent. I'll have questions come Friday when I pick them up, like Steve-o's multiple trips to fine tune, or while streaming shows can one still have a conversation or is that all you hear like ear buds??

If they are plugged into the TV.....like headphones or ear plugs that's all you hear. You can hear someone talking, but they have to talk loud above the TV if it's on. If off.....no problem.
