I know we just had some posts about online banking and old school check writing in the incoming weather thread, but I thought they really didn’t belong under weather, so I’m posting here.

I was in Duluth today and stopped in the west end to have lunch. The parking meter asked for payment by phone and I followed the instructions to pay with a credit card card by phone. I’ve done this before with no issues, but it seemed a little troublesome this time, so after providing credit card info, and still being asked for additional info, I used four quarters to buy an hour of parking. Left the restaurant after paying with the same credit card and headed to a gas station to fill the tank. My credit card was declined twice. I received a text message from the bank asking if I had made a purchase for something from some place I have never heard of. I texted back “NO”. I used a different card-same bank-to pay for the gas. Got a text from the bank saying the first card was locked. I called them and we quickly determined that the card was compromised when I tried to use it at the parking meter. A new card is on the way.
Just thought, I’d post this after the posts from a few days ago. I’ve still got great faith in my bank card company, to catch attempts by these criminals. Just too damn bad that they can’t be tracked down and locked up for life.  :angry2:

Was it a credit card or a debt card?

Credit. I only use debit cards to make cash withdrawals. Credit cards offer better protection.

Sometimes it pays to be technologically challenged like me. I don't know how to use a debit card. I carry a credit card and a debit card but I use cash. I always get a receipt, too.
I used to be cute and adorable. Then, I had my first birthday. Been downhill ever since.

Good that they are so good at knowing that.  Another scam is the donate to the Sheriff's Association.  I get that every year and the envelope has the local Sheriff's name on it.  I have talked to him about it and he says he can't do anything about it.  ???   Well don't donate to it, it is a scam.
