Hunting, trapping season input sought at Tower meeting

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will take public comments and recommendations about hunting and trapping season regulations and proposals at a public input meeting on Tuesday, March 27, at the Tower DNR Office (located at 650 Highway 169, Tower) beginning at 7 p.m.

Each year, the DNR holds a series of public meetings across the state to gauge hunter opinions about regulations, seasons and other wildlife management issues. Those who cannot attend the meetings are urged to e-mail comments to wildlife@dnr.state.mn.us.

"These meetings are an opportunity for hunters and trappers to learn about and comment on issues that will affect them in the coming year," said Jeff Lightfoot, DNR regional wildlife manager. "We encourage anyone with an interest in hunting or trapping issues to attend."

Topics include:

? hunting and trapping opening dates

? changing the bow draw weight for deer hunting from 40 to 30 pounds

? accepting opinions regarding the accidental taking of hunting dogs and pets in conibear trapping land sets

? changing the pheasant daily bag limit from two to three birds

? changing the pheasant possession limit from three times the daily bag to five times the daily bag

? proposed waterfowl refuges in northern St. Louis County

Written comments may be mailed to: Season Comments, DNR Section of Wildlife, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155-4007.
