  >:(  IT,S ON THE WAY OUT !!  drilled some holes in the local lakes and there is still a strong 28" of ice !!  for the most , the lakes are now just starting to melt at the waters edge. the access roads to the ice has softened somewhat!  the ice condition has 3" of foggy ice ontop and 24" of sound hard ice below! i also noticed a few holes that had washed out from the rain that we had here wednesday evening, to this road travel on the ice for this year should be a wheeler and foot traffic only through the weekend at the longest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

           ???       CAUTION - CAUTION - CAUTION -CAUTION       :-\

should be observed from this point on !! good fishing and be safe.

Thanks for the report Woodchuck!  Although it's sad to see the ice season come to an end-it's equally exciting to see spring come.   I for one am ready to see things green up around here.  Spring is an exciting time of year for me, with the birds returning from their winter retreat, and getting ready for open water fishing!   Not to mention that first thunderstorm of the season that makes the air smell fresh, and the lawns a nice rich green color!

I am however not looking forward to two things: Mosquitos and humidity!

;D what a beautiful day to be on the ice !! one has to question ? what is with the winter? that it has to come to an end on such a wonderful day and the fish cooperated to the fullest? what more could a person ask for ? how about another day on the ice to make a memory last just one more day ! and then tomorrow we ask for just one more please ! if all my tomorrows are half as good as todays, i need not to ask for more .
                         woodchuck  ;D  :)

:(  ??? went out 1 more time to round lake , the shore line has melted away to float the ice pack! with the weather forcast for rain and winds the next 3 days the ice should be done by friday?  the fishing was not that good for the 4 hrs. i spent on round . ended up with 1 decent crappie and 5 sunnies . the fish seemed to be holding there spring pattern . holding suspended at 10 ft in 17 fow.  waiting the final melt down to what looks like a good spring bite . ?? watch your step on the ice for it might be a deep one !!  good luck and good fishing !!

                     woodchuck  :)  fish on !

???    was not happy to see the condition of the ice !!  with the auger at a full throttle the bit hit  the ice and all that came up was ice cubes and no shaveings !!so that indicated soft ice to the bottom!
it,s just a matter of time ? and the body of water as to when the ice pack becomes ICICLES.

Got out today and took a few pic's on the way to Brainerd

Pillager Lake it won't be long now till it's open..

The dam south west of Pillager on the crow wing river
had 6 of the 16 doors wide open

While the dam at syvin lake(resavore) was wide open with 1 door wide open..

I stoped at the crow wing river to shoot this one.

???  anyone for a cold drink? or should i have asked anyone for a cold dip? went for a ride around the lakes area this afternoon and all you can see is ice cubes every where!! about all we need now besides the rain , is a good west wind and another warm day to put the ice behind us. what open water we had is now loaded with crushed ice that resembles a cold frosted drink of the cola kind .  :P with a little patients and some final work on the boats we should be able to test the waters by mid week here in the brainerd lakes area ? good luck and good ventures !!  ;D :)
