I spend the opener with friends every year, tipping back a few, cooking some good vittles, and playing some cards, and of course plenty of fishing!  The past few years has been at my place on Leech, Spinach will be joining me this year, it should be a go time.
 ::cheers::

My son and I spend opener with my dad at his summer place on the Woman Lake chain.  Previously it was always spent on Winnie for 30+ yrs.  No partyin-just fishing and relaxing, and good food.   Last year was cut short due to cold and rain-so we spent the weekend with mom (Also mother's day weekend boys!)  ;)  This year opener is also on my daughters birthday, so we'll see how long we spend fishing.   ::fishing::

Last year was my first "official" opener and I spent it with a couple buddies up in Grand Rapids for Saturday, then we hit Mille Lacs on Sunday on the way home.  We met up with my cousin and I fished with him till 5:00 or so.

This year I am PLANNING on spending it in GR again with a few buddies but on some different water.  I have been promissed limits before noon, then we will be heading out to find some bullgills to CPR.  But it all depends on what the wife says, baby #1 is due any day so if all is good at the home front, I will head up Saturday EARLY AM till Sunday afternoon.

I can't wait to share it with the wife and baby girl!!!

I'll be spending Opening Day with my buddy Fiskynut on LOW. Probably over by Morris Point somewhere. We went over there last year and hit one of the hottest bites I've ever been lucky enough to get in on. The action was fast and furious! ::fishing:: We had 2 scoops of fatheads and went through all of those. Then we started picking up the dead minnows and parts of minnows from the bottom of the boat and kept on catching fish after fish! When we exhausted every last bit of bait we could find, we put on some small plastics . We continued to catch fish but not as fast as we had been doing. I think Fisky's biggest eye was a 27" and I was surprised by a dandy 19 1/2" smallie! 8) How great was that, eh? Now spring can't get here fast enough to suit me! Fish on! ::rockon::DIRTBALL2 ;)

When you live on a lake in Nisswa you have the choice of all the great lakes around here. But it's the excitement of opening..... Reeds for lures, Fleet Farm for lures, S&W for bait and donuts, Sportland for more bait ::fishing::......then again you sure miss old Koeps bait shop.....  Donuts all weekend, the smell of bait and fish and the crowds of happy fisher people.  Watching the catch's come in, picking up more lures and jigs, even if you have them already......Ah the excitment of opening weekend!

I broke my string of 14 consecutive openers on Mille Lacs last year. We fished the St Croix river which is only 10 minutes from my house.

This year I'm heading to Leech Lake with Leech Angler and his crew, should be a great time.

I guess I will be guiding Scott and another buddy to a limit of walleye by noon in the Grand Rapids area  ::hittingself::  This will be about my 25th opener.  I fish new water nearly every year.  The weather dictates on what water I'll be fishing...

Can't wait!! 30 days and counting...

Will Prolly be going to a private lake. Most lakes with a public access seem to be too hectic and tend to try my patience.

I'm with you Griz. I don't usually go out on opener because of all the people.

 I don't think I could get a pass from the wife anyway because, like Scottpugh, I have a little one that will arrive very close to opener. How long until pheasant opener?  :rock:
