Ideas for a fire ring

Looking for different ideas for my fire ring in the yard. I was using a small one, not sure what it was but it is too small and it looks like junk. I want it to look somewhat nice and be big enough around so I can get a pretty good fire going on within the ring. What have others done? Any ideas? Thanks!!

First of all check the regulation's in your area  :: your city's codes many not let you have one .
next is how fancy do you want to go ?
fleet farm has them fancy cut out ones..

A car or tractor rim will work just fine  ::rockon::

I'll be building mine out of landscape blocks.  I have to have a 3' wide pit lined with rock or stone according to city ordinance.  And found out these will work as well.  It won't be as cheap as rock, but I won't have them falling into the fire/pit either!   ::rockon::

My brother and I built one but didn't pay attention too what kind  of brick we used. The first real big fire we had the bricks desinagrated! Make sure you got the right materials!

I just need to get the blocks. I have been checking Craigslist, might be able to find some for free.

think menards had them on sale in this weeks flyer for 1.97$ each..

the blocks look nice, but they will crack from the heat of the fire.  my neighbors have one, and it has cracked on him.  your best bet, and cheap, is drive around in the country, find a corner of a field where the farmer has piled field stones when he hits them with a plow and grab a bunch.  then just get some cement/mortar mix and make a pit.  it will last longer and probably cost way less.  and I think it would look really cool too.

hmmmm that sounds like an idea...... since there are alot of fields around here might have to hit up the farmers for those old rocks that they dug up

Here's my fire pit along with my models Lucy and Sadie.



I just arranged em as best I could, dug a hole with the rocks in place and banked em in on the outside.  Beed there a few years now and do a great job.

If anyone has a hard time findin rocks, give me a shout...I have several friends south of the Metro that farm and have good sized rock piles I have been given free access to. Most farmers in your area would be more than happy to have someone clean up their rock piles from time to time. Just make sure and ask before hauling them away.

I bought mine at Menards and used 2 layers dug into the ground so it was flush with the ground.  I used Belgian Wedge.

They were on sale for .98 I believe.  used 46 for a hole about 4' diameter.

I took the legs off my old Weber Grill and dug a shallow pit for it to rest in. I then lined the outside with old bricks that my neighbor was trying to get rid off. It makes a nice size fire pit for in the city.

For now I have just been using a standard fire ring...not sure what it is but it works. Too many other things to worry about now.

I would be intersted in finding rocks for my fire ring I'm going to build.  Looking for the larger field/lake rocks.  I am located in the southern TC.  Thanks
