A new state law now limits the wood that can be brought onto lands administered by the Minnesota DNR, such as State Parks and State Forests.

 Approved firewood would include:

1.   Firewood offered for sale by vendors currently under contact with the DNR.

2.   Firewood offered for sale by vendors who have successfully completed an application process requiring
                that two conditions be met:

The wood must have originated on lands within Minnesota and within 100 miles of the park or forest
                where it will be used.

The vendor must provide a proof of purchase to customers.

3.   Kiln-dried wood such as unpainted and unstained dimension lumber of kindling that is free of any metal or foreign substance.

Where did you get this info BFG?

How can they possibly get away with mandating this kind of stuff on your firewood?

Seems very strange to me, unless this has something to do with the Ash Borer bug I have been hearing about.

Just did some quick research on this Ash Borer bug, and yes, it indeed is in response to it.  ::banghead::

??? and it only gets better ! as a firewood producer for more then 30 years, and an already struggling forest market it is only getting worse as time goes by. in the forest and logging communities here around the brainerd lakes area and out state, the mn. dnr has implemented new restrictions to an already unstable situation makeing it go from bad to worse. so much for the free enterprise and make your own way in the logging and forest products business.

In reading several articles I have found on this Emerald Ash Borer issue, they believe it has been brought over from Asia in firewood that is imported to be sold at area Menards stores. Here are some articles from MN, Iowa and Wisconsin that I have found regarding Menards firewood and this bug.

If you have purchased any firewood from Menards===>>>BURN IT IMMEDIATELY !
