the old iron mine pits just outside of crosby / ironton.
the pits slowly fill with water after the mining opperations stop and they shut off the pumps.
this makes for the perfect setup for stocking fish for the recreational user.
not sure what they have in them there, but the pits around here are stocked with trout and the fishing can be good to excellent at times.

seems to me I remember hearing about big northerns in those pits by crosby?
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

;D ::fishing:: as usual jiggs you have it right!! seems to me the last mine shut down in 1972 inland steel, and right after that the pits realy went to the pits , fishing only got better . all the pits have fish and some are designated trout lakes(pits) but still have large northern pike and a few large walleye also . for the most of it ,the pits are rough to get into and you should have a trout stamp on hand !! as if you are not fishing trout and more for panfish and dont know where you are at you will be ticketed by a CO  for no stamp !! so for a 10.00 stamp it is cheaper then a ticket !!!!!!  a couple of the better pits for fishing are the pennington, hannafeigh, and the section 6 pits for trout .
