OK this will be option 2B - Open Water Experience.

A few years ago, my oldest boy (Hockey #12) and I entered a youth fishing contest.  We fished hard all day, struggled with the boat, didn't catch anything and were getting hot, tired, and hungry.  We were just about to leave when #12 hooks into somethin big.  I heard a loud SPLASH #12 yelling "HELP HELP HELP HELP!!!", and his reel's drag wizzing at a very high speed WIZZZZZZZZZZ !!! So I tell him to let it run.  He calmed down a bit and after the fish ran a bit, it stopped.  So we worked it back in to the boat and landed it safely.  It was about a 2 1/2 foot tiger musky.  We hauled butt back to the boat landing and it weighed 4.5 lbs.  The considered it a northern since thats a hybred and that won him the Largest Northern category of that tourney.  He got a plaque and a few other prizes for it but the excitement and fun is what mattered the most.

I took my 8yr old granddaughter out for a leisurely day of fishing. Usually things are a little slow. anchored off some lillypads. Baited her hook. well 30 seconds later she was fighting a fish.  well the whole day was like that. Icouldnt get a line in the water.  Every time her line went in she had a fish. Sunnies and perchall day long. It was great to see the excitement on her face. getting a young one interested in the out doors is what made it memoriable for me.

Those are ALL great fishing memories...thanks Grute Man, Hockey #12, Rchaze and sunk1 for sharing those memories with us.

Sunk1...your outing with your Granddaughter reminds me of several of my last trips out with my son. He no sooner gets his line in the water and he's pullin' one back in! It's great to see the excitement in their eyes at those times.

OK, so my best experience occurred when I was about 6-8 years old (I'm 30 now). I remember being at the cabin coming back in from a day of fishing with my grandpa when I accidentally knocked the styrofoam minnow bucket off the dock and it floated away. I felt so bad, even though I wasn't scolded. HEck, I probably thought those things were $50 or something. Anyway, because I felt so bad I refused to go up to the cabin with everyone else, instead choosing to sit down at the end of the dock by myself casting a bare hook w/ a splt shot to try to snag the bait bucket. While on the end of the dock casting on my own, I snagged about an 8lb northern! What a fight! My dad and grandpa came running down to the dock to help me out, but I landed him up on shore on my own. That styrofoam minnow bucket because a distant memory! The best part, by parents and relatives thought it was so funny to see me sitting on the end of the dock by myself casting away w/ no bait, just a bare hook, that they took my picture from behind w/o me knowing. To this day it's one of my favorite pictures becase it's just me at the age of 6-8 at the end of the dock fishing with the sun setting...ah the memories!

I'll give you two that may be frowned on now days but hey this back in the late 50's early 60's. Both times I was with the same guy,(J) on the same lake.
J didn't have any boys of his own so he would take a couple of us nieghbors boy's fishing with him when he needed help draging the boat to the lake.
This day me and J' nephew were the lucky ones and as we were trooing around the lake J's nephew hooked  a honker northern. He does a great job of  playing it and getting it up to the boat. We soon discovered the net was to small for the fish and J asy's no problem as he pulls out his 22 pistol takes aim and firers. We all sat there with a dumpfounded look  I would imagine and then started :ROTFLMAO:. J missed the fish but not the fishing line.

Just me and J this time.  Again we were trolling around the same lake and J makes a remark about the motor not sounding or feeling rite in his hand, somthing about to much vibration. The motor is one of them 3 hp, jonhstons like I still have. He checks the mount clamps and they are find so we just keep putting along.A ways down the lake we are slowing down and the motor sounds different to me even. J shuts the motor down and tilts it up and says a few choice words because the lower half of the motor is gone. He then losens the motor clamps and dropes the top half in the lake, picks up his fishing pole and starts casting. After 2 or 3 casts he looks at me and says boy if you don't get on the ores you are going to have to ore this boat a lot further  to get to the landing.
