I still have my laptop though. ;D

To make a long story short, my desktop is screwded up with a possible virus???? Over this past weekend I switched from MSN to Comcast, within 5 minutes after the modem and software installation, my computer started acting stupid, the first thing was a baloon popped up on the toolbar saying i had "spyware" it also changed my home page from Comcast.net to Blank.com or something like that. I immediately downloaded Comcasts free Antivirus and internet security through Mcafee., my initial scan picked up 8 viruses/spyware etc... 5 of the 8 were cleaned or quarinteed, 3 of them had a message saying they were not able to clean, delete or quarintine, so I decided to run another full scan, this morning i woke up early and the computer was done scanning all files, it made me reboot , then it would not start again, after a few attempts of restarting i finally got it started. Now it restarts and doesn't allow me to get online, wont allow me to go to Network connections either, I tried to go into device manager and i hear a beep from the tower, the device manager window is blank too, as if there are no devices installed. The icons on my desktop are screwed up too, some i cant open and some i can, i tried opening Mcafee Antivirus and it wont open, almost like it doesn't exist any longer.

About the best way to explain this is the beep from the tower when any communication is attempted, is this a virus or did it screw up some of my hardware?

I allready tried to do a system restore and a backup, i just get that strange beep.

Any help would be much appreciated.

What did you end up having to do?

Sorry i missed this post yesterday. I ended up having to reinstall windows from the disc.

After that I had to upgrade a few things on Windows update and everything worked like the computer was brand new. ;D

BTW, welcome to the site A-Rod, it took you a while but you finally found us. ;D

Thanks.  For as much time as I spend on the puter at work surfing outdoors sites....

Reload always seems to be the answer.

I found a free download called Ccleaner and It works great.  Gets rid of all the spyware and other stupid crap that gets picked up off the world wide web.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

its free and I have been using it for a few months now.  I really think it works as good as some of the high buck spyware and registry cleaners.  FREE! I like the fact thats its FREE!
