I believe the season is right around the corner. Just wondering if anyone hunts them.

I've wanted to hunt them for years.... although in my home state of NJ they weren't a game bird... :(
I found a place near me that has a good population of them for this upcoming season.... hoping to get out there the monday after opener....

Do you eat them or is this mostly sport?  And if you eat them how do you cook one?

Ok.... so i have a few questions.......

1st ..... As i read it in the reg book..... lead shot IS legal as long as you're not on a managed dove field. Is that a true statement?

2nd ..... If Doves are classified as a migratory bird... do the normal upland/small game Blaze orange requirements still apply? Or do we follow the waterfowl regulations for camo?

Thanks!

Doves, one of my favorites They are THE most hunted bird in North America. I like to grill the tasty litte birds skewered with a wrap of bacon. When the bacon is done so is the breast. But you don't need bacon to have them taste good. Your best hunting area is a bare piece of ground with small seed grasses nearby.

I hunted them when I was a teen in KY.  Tons of birds there.  They'd fly in flocks of 50 - 100 it seemd like.  We had so much fun and would get plenty of birds to make a meal for everyone.  Yeah those breasts are 2 or 3 to a bite but they're great.  Sure has been a long time.  Hey if anyone's going, don't forget that its not safe to hunt alone so I'll go with you -- just to be safe of course.   :whistling: :gunsmilie:

Has anyone been to the managed dove field at Carlos Avery?

What's it like?

Where is it?

Have most of the dove migrated out of here by now?
