Fishing has been up and down recently, fish scattered from 3-almost 30 feet.

Walleyes are being taken on Basswood in up to 24 feet, and seem to be hanging out on the edges of/or between reefs.

Bass are also all over the place. Burntside is producing smaller ones with a jig and minnow, leech, or crawler .  Another method that works well is a chartreuse/green jig with a double green twister tail, trolled at about 1/2 to 1 mph in 8-25 feet of water.

Water temps are slowly cooling, with surface being about 65 on most lakes, dropping lower the next few days if the forecasts hold.

Trout being taken in about 75FOW on both Burntside and Snowbank.

Lake levels are low.

For up to the minute fishing reports, call me at 218-365-4744 before 10 am daily. I have 45 years fishing experience in the Ely area, and have owned and operated the Great Outdoors Bait & Tackle for 23 years (over five times longer than any other current shop owner within a 40+ mile radius) If I don't have an answer for you,  will call someone that does, and get back to you. Thank you!

I was gone for most of the week fishing up on the east side of Lake Vermillion as well as on the Vermillion River.  Had a great time and did pretty good.  Got eight 16 inchers on the lake to keep that were below the 17 to 26 inch throw backs.  Then really got into them on the river with over 20 walleyes in 2 days with most in them 18 to 22 inch range with the biggest being 24 3/4.  Also got a 35, 36 and 40 inch pike.  Allota fun!

Water levels were low but it made for some really nice floating rapala work on the river in the 4 to 6 foot areas.

I used the small reef runners that go to 10 to 12 feet on the east lake and run the 12 foot lines.  Got a couple of new nicks in the stainless prop...oh well.
