That is VERY cool Chris, and well deserved.  I have two brothers that are firefighters and my dad is also a retired fire fighter, it's nice to know you are appreciated I am sure!

We spent some time tonight as a family watching some of the things being shown on the events of 9/11 that paid tribute and respect to all those who helped and sacrificed on this day six years ago.

We spent alot of time talking with our son about what happened, how this has affected things in our world today as well as how the familes have been affected by this. We feel it is very important to spend the time talking about these things with him so that as he grows up, he can hopefully be able to deal with things that may happen in his life or the lives of the ones he cares about in a positive way.

We send out our prayers to all those affected by the events of 9/11!

Well Im only speaking for myself here but things like that are nothing I'll ever forget but I don't see them as entertainment.  Many families lives were destroyed over this and I feel that memorials and the such are a nice way to remember them but not watching the actual act of destruction.  I also feel that "Hollywood" making money off of it is deplorable.  I honestly pray that God blesses all who were victem to that attack.  Just my opinion.

The GREAT thing about AMERICA is that we all have CHOICES....I think each and everyone of us have the right to watch this or not..I personally chose to watch it, but Banger if some people such as Grute, Chris or anyone else can't bare to watch it..I don't think that it means that they forgot about it, or will ever forget.  And Grute, I don't think by any means that Banger or anyone else that prefers to watch this, see's it as entertainment, we just choose to keep our memories of 9/11 present.

I value all of your opinions, and I think we should all just take a step back and realize when it comes down to it...we all care about our trooops and our country very much, and each and everyone of us has our own way of doing so....

The day which will live in infamy. It was december 7, I dont know the year, sorry, early forties is my best guess. I know that the USS Arizona is a tomb for thousands of men at the time were my age right now. I know that they spotted a sub outside of the harbor before the attack and that they sank a sub too. What the soldiers did there doing there best to fight is no different then what NYPD, Port Authority, EMS, NYFD did. Read about it in school, I watched the movies and the documentaries on the history channel, and maybe I watched it cuz I wasnt alive when it happened. I was alive for 9/11. And to watch it every day.

Tell you what, go out and ask ten people whats the first image that comes to their mind, i bet its the second plane hitting the tower. I can remember that like it was yesterday morning, I dont need the tv to replay it to remember it. I do the mass castastrophe (sp) training with the FD, PD, EMS, Red Cross. Am I prepared to ever have to deal with a disaster like that? For the victims sake, I sure hope so. I walk into the fire station and our trucks have an insignia remembering those who lost their lives.

You tell me to the pull covers over my head or wimp? Ask yourself this what have you done to make the nation, the state, your community a better place? When your running out of your house that is on fire (which I certainly hope never happens to anyone) and you live in the north metro, if I am not one of the guys on first due, I am right behind them going in. I volunteer my time to go to daycares in the summer in full turn out gear showing kids what we look like and if they ever see us in a fire, not to hide, were not the bad guys. I walk in the local Fun fest parade in full gear handing out candy and I make them take it out of my glove so they are not as afraid. We have fire prevention week coming up, I will be at the Elementary school doing the same. I could be out hunting, fishing, scouting, or doing anything I want, but I am out trying to help people.

I get a call at 1 in the morning, yeah I would like to pull the covers over my head and get some more sleep, but someones counting on me to be there.

Yeah, I dont know any fire fighters from NY, probably never will, but the Firefighting brotherhood is as tight knit of a group as your going to find. Yeah, we dont go to the mideast and we dont get blindsided by the japanese, but we certainly dont expect buildings to fall down on us, but its part of our job.

Sorry to vent but your calling me a wimp on a proffesion that you dont do, or have zero knowledge about. Go back to back to pushing numbers or whatever you do. Your probably pretty good at it, but if your co worker gets a finger cramp or something, maybe you should watch the security tapes every day so you know what hazards your job includes, or better yet, stay at home and pull the covers over your head, yeah that would be better....

Heres another point, after 9/11 did you go out and donate blood? That would have been the easiest thing you could have done to help. I donate every 56 days because I have o- blood. Do I need to? No, but I do.

I dont want to call him out, his opinion is exactly that. I wont lose any sleep over it. But there are 49 people in Andover, which if I remember right is where you live? Thats 49 people willing to drop everything they have going on in there lives, leave their sons football game, or miss part of thanksgiving, or have to make their kids wait to open presents because we are taking care of someone else. 49 people who are willing and want to take care of your life, or wife's or your kids and your possessions. Yeah if thats makes me a wimp, call me that, I will keep doing what I am doing if I only get called a wimp.

You dont know me, thats fine hopefully we can do some ice fishing this winter, it was under 32 degrees this morning when I had to leave at 5 am for someone having a stroke. I was in the middle of setting goose decoys to go.

If you want to wander about 9/11, what was the first fire fighters position on the department to die in the attacks? He was the department minister. Did you know that the first in crew from ladder 86 carried an extremely large woman down 40 stories, only to have the building collapse on them, they would have been all the way out, had they not stopped. But you wont find that in the replays or in any movie.

If some choose not to watch, like GG said, to watch or not to watch... in no way does that make someone a wimp.  I respect Chris's choice not to watch the horrors that unfolded that day... if I were in the firefighting profession I don't think I'd want to watch it either.  We all saw it at one time or another.  I don't think we'd need to watch it again to "refresh" our memories.  My memories of the happenings are still very vivid in my mind and I haven't seen it since
I am not sure if you were just poking fun at Chris or what icebangor, but I think your comments are out of line.  That's my opinion, like it or not.  
For what it's worth, I wouldn't think less of anyone if they feel they don't want to watch it over again.
As our generation gets older and the kids today are the main working force f America, I am sure there will always be a memorial for 9-11, like there is for pearl harbor? there will be movies(more movies) made like there are many for pearl harbor.  But as generations pass, so will the anger.  Or do you watch images of pearl harbor and wish that we could go kill Japanese again?

Let's move on people... 9-11 was a horrible day for all Americans. We can't help what a few people think about us and how we choose to deal with it. What matters is what the majority thinks.  And I think I can speak for the majority here that Chris is not a wimp.  If you want, I can post an opinion poll asking the question...

I have wanted to be a fire fighter my whole life, follow in my dads steps. hes been on for almost 20 years, a year after the attacks 60 minutes did a two hour special on it, based on the fire fighters perspective. Thats the first time and one of three times I have seen my dad cry. The second time was when the twin towers movie came out. As far as I am concerned hes tough as nails but when something like that hits a nerve that deep in someone whos 1200 miles away, thats pretty powerful.

My goal in my career, when I was a junior in high school, I broke up the hail mary from Richfield as time expired to win the first game in Andover history. After time expired, my dad wasnt around he was at a call, I heard them honk the engine as they drove past. So hopefully just once, I can help someone elses dad so that they can see their kid make a winning play. Thats my goal, if I can do that just once, my jobs been a success.

chris yes i did know those facts there was 2 french brothers that were with a ladder company...one was on the street with a crew checking a gas leak i believe he is the only one that got the 1st plane hitting the 1st tower he also was in the tower with the minister and he got him on tape if you havent seen it it is a great documentary that starts on nyfd and catches the events of that horrible day.i have it on dvd if you want a copy ill burn one for you...can you and i say hatchet buried...and id love to hit the ice with you anytime im right here in ramsey...eric

You know after reading everyone's post here it kind of made me sad...that feather's got ruffled over it and all..But, I thought some more about it...and I see that everyone may have a different opinion on whether they want to watch it over again...again we all have our own reasons for our choices. But when it comes down to it....the reasons the arguments only got so heated is because you all feel very STRONGLY on the subject, which really means you ALL care so much, which is a good thing, not bad.  Basically everyone is defending how much 9/11 really matters to each of us and always will.  If you take a look and read back, you are all saying the same thing, that it affected you all deeply and you wont EVER forget.  I'm glad everyone made PEACE....
