Lake Geneva Report 9/12/07

Wednesday 9/12 Report.
The air temp this morning was 41 degrees when my solders arrived at the Linn Pier launch. After a quick inspection of the troops I realized that they were not dressed in the proper combat attire. So, I opened the trunk of the of the car and began to break out some extra coats and sweatshirts.

Now that my troops were combat ready we proceeded to launch the assault vehicle. Gabor, Dave and Mike were itchin to do some battle. I had promised them some real action as we approached the battle field.

As the first 1/2 hr passed we hadn't had one encounter and you could almost hear a pin drop in the boat. This is not a fun situation for a guide. As I was in the midst of explaining that you have to wait the fish out at times Gabor's rod started to bend followed by a chorus of Mike yelling "I got one".

Our best Smallie today was Mike's 19 & 1/2 incher caught on a Carolina Rig in 36ft. Besides catching the best fish of the day Mike also lost the best fish of the day when we pulled up at Black Point for a quick 15 minute last stop. He nailed a big fish in 41 ft and couldn't get it to come up off the bottom. finally it started to move ever so slowly until it reached the good old anchor rope and that was the end of that.

First off Mike had on 4# test and second he was using a shorter rod. With 6# and a longer rod he may have been able to apply more pressure and steer the fish around the anchor rope.


I always offer my clients the use of my rods and reels, but in many cases they would rather use their own.

Today's totals were 18 smallies from 15 to 19 1/2 inches along with 22 more under 15 inches. What a great day on the water for my crew and they were already talkin about the next trip back on Geneva.
