They are made by Baikal of Russia for Remington, not a bad shotgun though.

I would suggest looking at the Baikal brand for a better price and still getting the same gun with out paying Remingtons mark up.

The Mossberg O/U are also made by a foriegn company, they are made by Khan out of Turkey.
Not a bad gun either, just not made by the company selling them that's all.

I bought a Baikal O/U 20 guage for my wife a couple of years ago and she loves it. Only two problems I found with them. First off they are extremely stiff to open at first. My wife couldnt open hers on her own. I asked around and everyone said just keep opening and shooting and it will loosen up. It has loosened up but still pretty tight and it does shoot great. Also not a bad looking gun. The second problem I have with it is I am used to my Red Label that has a barrel selector and the Baikal doesnt. I dont remember for sure but I think it shoots the bottom barrel first which is what I usually shoot first anyway.

I like the Baikals and dont know anything about the Spartans but it was stated that they are made by Baikal.

I didn't like any of the Spartans I looked at. The action seemed too sloppy. Have you looked at any Stoegers? The Condor Supreme is a decent gun for the price. I bought mine about 3 years ago and the action was stiff, but nothing a case of shells couldn't cure. Now it drops open just from the weight of the barrel.

I know them well...good choice if ya want a cheap two barrel...bad choice if your not a large, beefy person.  They weigh a ton!  Especially if yer gonna use it for upland hunting and carry it all day.  For clays or waterfowling i'd be good...I'd check out some CZ's, Stoeger's and there are quite a few Turkish made guns coming out under different brands...Man, those Russian guns just weigh a ton!  For the money, I found the new CZ's to be pretty darn nice!    -thunderpout 8)

CZ USA is a company that imports Turkish firearms and I believe they have their own plant now.  They are like the Hulu which is made in Turkey also.  The quality from that country is said to rival the spanish and some of the Itailian gun makers....     -T-pout 8)

Any idea on the price range on the CZ?  I have never owned an O/U and I am looking for an affordable one for the first one.  I saw the Remington name on that Spartan and they were priced fairly reasonable.  Thanks

Yep, the spartan is about as inexpensive as you can find without going the used gun route. Thus the name...dont they go for 400-600 bucks?  I believe the CZ's go 7-900 bucks, but thats still better than the typical one-two thousand for the nice OU's.....I'd look at somthing used before I'd go the spartan route, but thats just me....The Stoeger and the Savage and the mossberg are inbetween the spartan and the CZ's, quality and price wise....     -thunderpout 8)

I own two Spartans"  12ga and 20ga.  Like em both.  I just don't need a $3000 dollar gun to kill a bird.  Geno

I work with a guy who wants this $10,000 Kreigoff.  I told him I could probably get a gun for everyone in my family and still have $$ left over.  He just laughed at me.

Is the Stoeger that you are talking about the Condor?  They are on sale for 100 bucks cheaper than the Spartan.  Thanks everybody for your input??

Mickbear,

I was in your exact situation not even a month ago.  I liked the CZ, Stoeger, Remington, and Mossberg.  The Remington fit me the best.  Before making your decision get the facts straight and a gun that fits.  The CZ is the most expensive of the 4.  To get the selective barrels and auto ejectors in the Stoeger you have to go with the Condor Supreme and not the plain Condor.  I'm not sure how important the selective barrels are but the auto ejectors are a must in my book.  Seconds Dunham's is closing out the Remington's.  I paid $350 for mine plus tax which is cheaper then all the rest.  It comes with 4 choke tubes also.  They had 1 20gauge left for $378 in the Willmar Store.  The Remington's do have the selctive barrels.  The bottom barrel shoots first but by pushing the trigger forward it will select the top barrel to shoot first.  I used mine this weekend and it worked great.  Plus if a grown man can't carry 7.5 lbs around in the field all day you should probably hit the weight room.

Remmington 7.5 lbs
Mossberg 7.7 lbs
condor Supreme 7.4 lbs
CZ 7.7 lbs. and only a 26inch barrel.  All other guns are 12gauge, 3inch chamber, 28inch barrel.

Guys, I was up Walker way last weekend and stopped in to Reeds.  They had quite a few Mossberg o/u's and was pretty impressed with the fit and finish of them, not bad, similar to the CZ's in quality... Hey General, 7lbs plus aint that bad, my pheasant and clays o/u's weigh that much, but think of it this way, I ended up gettin a 20g sxs that weighs over 2lb's less than that, & when a grouse gets up in front of you, thats like a pair of boots hanging off your barrels!  The weight is good though for a gun that you shoot a lot as in pheasant hunting or clay shooting, so it soaks up recoil....     -thunderpout 8)

This is kinda interesting.  I was looking up info on my 2 new O/Us and did a Google search for both the Mossberg Silver Reserve  and then later the Remington Spartan (this post.)  On both occastoins, the first selection to come up from Google were these posts from Mickbear76.

Looks like we got the best info on the internet.   :happy1:

Well I now have both of those shot guns so I'll let you guys know how they opperate.  The Mossy is a 12 gauge and the Rem is a 20 for my younger boy.

See y'all at the range.
