Has any one here figured out a great solution for a beaten up tail?  My pooches tail really takes a beating in the regular season.

Probably a dumb question, but is it docked?   Probably not done with your bred.  Oh well.

No it isnt a dumb question...  But on the setters and pointers tails are part of the charm.  To some degree in field trials are judged on the way they carry the tail. So some folks try to help the dogs beating up the tail... I am looking for the best way to do this.

in my experience and I dont live in the pheasant belt, while out on a three four or five day hunt, my dogs usually get pretty beat up.
the eye brows, nose and titties get pretty raw. I put vaseline on the titties and nose once redness occures. the chest vest, (not neoprene) saves the nips, but little can be done for the eye brows.
that grass can be a bitch on them. not to mention getting sticks up the nose and in the eyeballs sad3.gif
I have not had any trouble with tails yet and I can't imagine what one could do.
just treat it with some sort of healing creme on the red / sore sots I guess.
my biggest worry is the feet. watch them feet.
most good hunting dogs will not quit until they actually tip over, but I'm sure you know this.

thinking about this makes me sure miss Dixie.
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

I've seen people put that self-stick bandage wrap on the tail tip before the tail gets shreded, but I think that was the guys that hunt out west where they all use the dog boots cause of the prickley pear and such... I like seein my setters flag swishing and twitchin, telling me whats goin on in his language...i'd be cool if somone made a flouresent "cap" on the tails tip to protect it and make it even more visible... I cant believe somone hasnt done this yet!    -thunderpout ;)
