Sorry I havent responded till now!! OH Im sure the right tick picker will come along one day!! LOL..
I broke 2 ribs riding my horse on Sunday when about 5 deer cam running thru the woods at us thensaw us and turn and went back thur the woods scaring the holy crap out of the horses.. They just wanted us off so they can run liket he dickens.. So have been at home the pst few days..

Yeah I thought you were a little partial to the queen smiley there GG!! ;D

Ouch Click!!  So sorry to hear about your ribs, I've been there, and know it isn't any fun at all!!
Of course I didn't have such a good excuse as you, I just tumbled down some outside CEMENT stairs with some heels on, missed the first step, and landed on the last one, with my skirt up over my head!! It was quite graceful, and in front of about 50 people, so I put on a pretty good show for everyone!!  :party1:  I know three days later, my pain just kept getting worse and worse, even 2 weeks later it was bad!  I sure hope your recovery doesn't take as long as mine did.  It was a solid 3 months until they started to feel normal again for me!...and laughing was quite out of the question...along with some other stuff that dont need mentioning!!  :rotflmao:

Well rest up, and have a Happy Turkey Day!!  Take Care!   :dancinred:   :queen:  gg

camp traditions,
ah yes, brings back a story, a buddy's boy was in his second year hunting with us and got his first buck,so it was pic time, then the gut time, even had a pic with the, well ya know, and we told him to save it cause every one's first buck tradition was this way, and if he wanted to make the transition into the camp and be a real hunter it had to be this way, sort of his right-of-passage.  joey's first buck. well ya know, Bon Appetit

WOW!  All I made my kid eat for his first deer was a pickled egg.   :chef:  Lots of crackers got eaten along with it and for some reason, I forgot to get him a beverage.  Tee hee hee.   Hopefully, next year, I'll have another boy eating a pickled egg.

About the only tradition we have is eating the tenderlions and livers for supper the night of the hunt. I don't know why alot of hunters don't save the liver and heart. People who don't like liver might like deer liver. We had a new guy at camp a about13-14 yrs ago. We'd gotten a few deer and when we were about to cook we realized nobody had brought any butter. There goes the liver and onions. The new guy replied thats OK who eats liver anyhow. Well GRIZ had an idea. One of the guys had run over a coon on the way back from town and had it in the back of his truck. I skun it out and took the fat off and whala we now had something to fry liver and onions in. :happy1:

Now the rest of us realized this new guy prolly wouldn't eat the liver. So we privately started a new old tradition the tenderlions get grilled after the liver is ate up. We skimped on the beans and taters too but left a good portion of liver and onions in the skillet. The guy out of hunger decided to try it. He took one bite and said what is this it ain't liver. It was. He really liked it and to this day he claims he'd take a deer just for it's liver. We never did tell him it was cooked in coon fat. One day I'll have him try a bunch of grizzly stew. He's still a bit fussy because of this close minded way of thinking what is good and what should be good tasting. He's getting better though just needs to try things before he know what it is.

Hey Im looking to see where events and things are posted..?? Do you guys on this site plan events or get togethers and such?? A fishing trip or outing would be fun and maybe some of the sponsors could donate prizes and we can have our own contests or have no prizes and jsut folks meet out on a lake for some getting to know each other and fun fishing.. And if I can help in any way I will but just thought it would be fun..

I liked this post last year so i figured "TO THE TOP" :bump:

We started watching "Escanaba in Da Moonlight" with Jeff Daniels after I saw it on this link. Funniest deer hunting movie I have ever seen.

We also started giving members nick names in deer camp.

I don't have a deer camp per say, but my hunting buddy past on a tradition of tossing the male parts at any rookie hunter that might be with us.  We don't get mean and throw them above the knees, but we do it in fun since the rookies are usually a little uneasy seeing thier first deer being field dressed.

Traditions huh?
Third generation deer camp,,,has been up to 17 of us at a time in camp on opener,,we added a wing to the east side loft for the girls (daughters,,no moms) pink carpet and all
friday nite before opener is show and tell  , "new stuff"   :toast:
sat nite hopefully is tederloins fried in butter with  shrooms,,, it's kinda neat watching our 20 something daughters with flashlights cutting out tenderloins in the dark :chef:
we have a foot stool named "bucky"  ,,, Bucky is the serving table for tenderloins,,,"bucky " has a small rack nailed on it ( looks kinda like a miniature deer )
Being pretty far off the road and no elec or other stuff,,our best tradition is the meals,,,thats where I come in,,,,big formal dinners and breakfast,,,lobster,,crab legs, prime rib,,turkey,,etc.
We sit every one at 1 big long table ,and being out in the woods, with all the kids, and alot of life long friend is the best  tradition

1rvguy, now that sounds like a great tradition.  Almost as much fun as the hunting itself.  Keep it going.

I love hearing everyones deer camp traditions. It just makes me want to get back up to the cabin! Our camp is a bow hunting camp and we all make sure that we set one week aside during the rut and all make it up to the camp. We all eat plentiful but we always have a BRANDY TASTE OFF! Our grandpa used to always have a brandy manhaten when he got off of stand, now his tradition has passed onto all of us grandchildren. During that week we all bring up a diffrent bottle of brandy and have a taste off. Everyone in camp takes some of each and rates them best to worst. We also have a shoot off sometime during the week. We call it IRONMAN and we all shoot at a sheet of steel with the bullseye cut out. Needless to say if you miss your done, and so is your arrow! Little stuff like that makes the week even better.
The harder you work, the luckier you get!

This year we are going to start a log book that stays in Deer camp.  Something for us to look back in 20 years when our memories will not be as good.  We got it from the movie "Escanaba in Da Moonlight"

We always have a family gathering on opening day.  All the hunters head to the stands til breakfast break, then we eat play a couple hands of poker and then head back to the stands.  Then around 1 everyone comes back and we deep fry injected turkeys and eat til we want to explode.  Then of course we play a few more hands of poker, then back to the stand.  At dark we come in and play poker and  :tequila; until just about everyone is passed out! LOL  It makes for Sunday to be a long day, but we just play some more poker and have more  :drinking: and everything is back to normal.

LOL Well they kinda do!  We are in an area where there are way more hunters than there should be and most of the deer get stopped before they reach our little area of woods, but the ones that do usually survive opening weekend!  ;D  After opener I tend to put a little bigger dent in them!

I'd never seen deer camp traditions till I hunted with my dad and his buddy in the U.P.  Boy I tell ya they bleed deer hunting up there it's a state holiday almost!!  Camp is always surrounded with better cooked meals than home, along with commoratory.  Usually saturday night consists of firing up the ol honda 5000 and having dinner while listening to the deer hunters roundup.  It's full of deer kills and its a way for the wives to get ahold of theyre ol man.  After din din its camp hop time for some braggin rights...Last year there was a polka party at a shack pretty wild...All ages from newborns to 80 year old folks full of stories.  I have been invited to alot of camps, by far yet Michigan was the most unique.

When I hunt in wisconsin, new deer hunters have to hang the male parts of their first buck up in a tree. also after thanksgiving on the second weekend, its pumpkin pie or a turkey sandwich for breakfast at 4:30 A.M.  I am hunting MN season near my house but its not the same mood hunting at home.  In a couple weeks I am going over for the wisconsin hunt and it will be great.
