Peterson back at practice, but unlikely to play vs. Giants

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Adrian Peterson was on the field for the first part of Minnesota's practice on Wednesday, participating in light individual drills with his teammates.

After working out without pain in his injured right knee the past two days, Peterson took the next step in his recovery from a partially torn lateral collateral ligament.

Coach Brad Childress said he considered Peterson upgraded from the "long shot" status he assigned the NFL's leading rusher earlier in the week regarding his readiness to play against the New York Giants. Still, the rookie must have another MRI test before he can be cleared and is unlikely to be in uniform on Sunday.

"I don't put any restrictions on him. Nothing surprises me with what that kid does," Childress said, adding: "I am always on the pessimistic side, but I acquiesce to the medical side -- and that is the next step."

Fullback Tony Richardson didn't practice because of a sprained knee, but Childress said he would not rule out the 13-year veteran from Sunday's game. Cornerback Antoine Winfield, who aggravated a strained hamstring last week, was limited in Wednesday's workout.

So how do you think the Peterson story will go?? Will it be like Moss? Garnett? Gaborik? Hunter??

Its great to know that the Vikes have an awesome running back and the future with him may look bright but lets get back down to earth here. This still is a Mn sports team and it will be ruined somehow.

Football is a lot different than other sports when it comes to contracts.  I wish all leagues operated the way the NFL does.  It is the only league where you can be competitive no matter what size market you are in and all teams have pretty much the same payroll.  I don't see any reason why he won't be a Viking for the rest of his career.

The other good thing about the NFL is that the contracts are not guaranteed.  If the NBA were setup that way Garnett might still be here because we could have just dumped a bunch of the bad contracts on the team and got some talent around him.
