I just received an e-mail that says this will be the new world record.  Does anyone know if this is true?  He sure looks big.

I've looked everywhere to try and find answers on this deer. Everywhere i find info says it was a fenced hunt?

Here are the pictures on the B&C site:

My answer will never change, there is no sport in that at all.  I don't care how big of an area they are fenced in, they are still fenced in.

B&C and P&Y do not recognize or score these deer officially. SCI does recognize them and has their own scoring system.

SCI is the Safari Club International:

http://www.safariclub.org/

If they are so pro hunting and want to do good for the sport than they should not advocate and promote fenced hunts.

looks to me like you can hunt in the fenced area or outside of it. I'm sure the ones harvested outside of it are ok. :fudd: :bambi:

Stories like this do not even get me going. Because there always seems to be a fence behind the story. I for one think the Milo Hanson buck will stay on top until we are all long gone. The Jordan buck if scored when shot would have been the champion for what 80 some years if I remember right.

I agree put a fence around the state of Iowa then you can call it a world record ...
Canned hunts are the worst thing in this sport and the people that go one them have no right to be called sportsmen ...
A 28lb walleye raised and caught in a bathtub is not a world record !!
just my opinion feel free to disagree with me !

I think you might be thinking of Mitch Rompola from MI.  Here's a story on him.  I guess he didn't want to have it officially measured which includes an xray of the antlers.

http://mikehanback.blogs.com/bigbuckzone/2006/04/breaking_news_i.html

I agree on "no fences."  Canned hunts might have their place in things but not for setting records.  Teaching kids how to hunt, maintaining a herd on a wild game farm...but if someone takes a monster buck inside a fence, they're better off not braggin about it.  Its like pickin up a road kill and trying to claim a record.  Oh well that's just my opinion.

I am out there to kill a deer.  I have never hunted in a fence or killed a monster buck for that matter.  The rush is all in the eyes of the beholder.  I was squirrel hunting yesterday and was surprised at the little rush I got when a squirrel was coming across the snow to me.

It's pretty assanine to suggest that someone is in the wrong because they shoot a deer in a fenced enclosure.  I don't consider it any different at all for me to set up over an alfalfa field to shoot deer I have been watching come in day after day and know almost exactly where and when they are coming.  By the way I also hide up in a tree and use a weapon!  Gee, now how sporting is that!  How about a guided hunt where the deer, elk, bear, etc are pointed out to you by a guide, who watches them day in and day out, and knows exactly where and when they travel.

How about running coon with my old English hound, any problem with that?  I have killed all of my bears in northern MN over bait, any problem with that?  Why not pick one type of hunting after another and talk them into the dirt till we have them all outlawed!  I get sick of hearing one group attack another over and over.

Well, there's my two cents worth!  How about a photo of this year's bear taken over bait!

Welcome to MNO jkcmj!  It's nice you could join us here.

I think the point that some members are debating here is that B&C and P&Y do not recognize or score these (fenced) deer officially.  I am sure it is a rush to harvest a deer at one of these deer game farms.  The hunter can not claim that deer as a free roaming record because it is not recognized by the most prominant antler scoring orgainizations.

Thank you for sharing your opinion on this topic.  I am sure we have many others that agree with you as well.

Thanks for the welcome Outdoors Junkie....

I found the MNO's web site advertisement while surfing for sporting goods for sale on Craigslist.  I enjoy discussions on outdoor topics and look forward to stopping back often.  It's on my favorites list already!

Scoring different types of kills under different categories makes a lot of sence to me.  Bow vs. Gun.  Fenced vs. Free range.

Voting apples to apples though, fenced vs. free range is still the same species.  A friend of mine has a huge tract of land in Iowa and they take 200 class deer off of each year.  They can pass on 140, 150 class bucks every day that I wouldn't likely see in a lifetime of hunting on our small farm surrounded by high hunting pressure.  His rarely leave his protected property.  Not to much unlike a fence.  You can feed for antler growth and control the time of harvest as you see fit just like in a fenced enclosure.  They also cull out undesirable breeding bucks(Mngmt deer) just like a fenced enclosure.  It all comes down to buying enough, or controling sufficient ground to encompass the natural travel areas of the deer and it's not unlike hunting an enclosure.

In either case deer survive to an age to have large mature headgear that would not be allowed in heavily hunted populations, except where they have sufficient cover to allow a few smart deer to survive to a ripe old age.

One way or another, money can buy large antlers, fenced enclosure or not...

Boy, did you hit the nail on the head! Money truly is what brings home the trophy for some hunters today. In these times some but surely not all peoples attitude is they have to have the biggest and the best by whatever means they can. Rather than spending years learning and working on being an outdoorsman, they build their careers and bank accounts. So when hunting season comes around and they feel the need to increase their odds for their trophy,  its a bigger faster gun, a guided or canned hunt in prime territory, or for some maybe even a spotlight. And hell, if none of the above work, some will buy a rack and hang it on their office wall for all to see. Yep, they even come up with stories about the hunt. And whats sick about it is they absolutely get to believing their own b.s. Its sad, but thats their state of affairs. It really all boils down to ethics. We should all work on the ethics we can..our own.. and pass those to our own children. Thats how hunting as a sport you know today will survive. I know from reading posts on this website that all of the people here are decent, and by and large want the same thing, a decent world with hunting and fishing opportunities for our grandchildren.

I would have to disagree with some of your opinions. Can I do that? yes I can.. First of everyone has a friend who has a friend that passes up 140 to 150 class bucks all day every day ( yeah right) The fact is over 75 percent of the hunters in the world could no tell you what a mature buck looks like. On to your 200 class deer every year  do you know what kind of nutrition that they would have to have to produce a 200 class deer every year. Yeah Iowa has some big bucks but come on??  ( i would like to see some pix)

Any problem with running coon yeah I have one... you dog hunters are making it hard for us trappers to trap. The whole 220 thing last year was brought on by whom??  Dog hunters... Rich lazy dog hunters. Yeah I used to think it would be cool to hunt with dogs, but not after last year, hearing what some of the dog hunters had to say about us trappers...

Kick and scream at me all you want it just shows that us as a whole of outdoorsman are not all on the same page.  You come on here with your "anything wrong with that" attitude and i have to say i dont like it.

If you want to shoot a mature buck look me up ill help you....... peace

:offtopic: sorry but I felt compelled to put mine in. I had the opportunity to visit one of these game farms in North Dakota. I went to harvest a trophy bull buffalo but not at my expense it was for the home builder that I predominantly work for. He just wanted the skull for a european mount and I got the meat which was fabulous. It wasn't really a hunt because after being shown which animal I was to kill I was dropped off in a patch of small scrubbby trees and the owner drove the buffalo toward me with his pickup. It was little scary though knowing that if these 2000 lb. animals decide to have at me running 30 mph. there really wasn't a tree big enough to climb. If a bull buffalo decides you are a threat they don't stop pounding you until there are just pieces left. Anyway during this time there were huge elk walking around and an occasional trophy whitetail. After the bull went down in drives a tractor to lift it up on its belly, then backs out of the way for photos. I think that cost $9000.00.The game farmer has one heck of an operation I saw a pen of about 40-50 whitetail does with one two year old "finisher buck"he was pretty impressive. What they do is artificialy inseminate the does and then keep them together in case it doesn't take. The animals were purchased to start with there. And a 12 foot fence surrounded the property. Every animal had a green ear tag with a visible # on it which had a corresponding price from the owner. You could just pick what you wanted. Alot of the clients were Attorneys and such. Once the heads are on the wall you can make up any story. Hunting is like a drug to some people and they will pay dearly to have the trophy that they crave. Which leads to the existance of these farms. No one will detract the fulfillment I get from even a woodcock hunt to a hunt of this nature. I guess I do not believe these are detrimental to the hunting sports. IF YOU HAVE THE CASH and are really gung ho about hunting you do not need a license and anytime of year it is availiable to you. It is a major expense to operate a game farm. Not only to feed the livestock but to comply with the governmental agencies as well. What this gets down to is why be jealous? Enjoy the moments that you can in your outdoors.

Ahhh... mnminkman, the anti- attitude!  Shame. Shame.

I would like to say I also trap a little myself.   I've also had to pull traps somebody placed in the fence row 20 yards from my old man's barn....

As to rich, lazy dog hunters... I'd say you obviously have not followed a hound much... I am only 32 years old and already wondering how long the ticker will hold out chasing hounds after 2 mile runs to get to a treed hound up and down these SE MN hills!

I posted a few pics of the size deer we(my brothers) got on our dad's farm this year under the BIG BUCK Post.  No booners in the bunch, but a nice 135 in 8 pointer.  We try to pass on the young bucks, but then usually find out the neighbors shot it....

We did end up catching a nice buck on trail cam, but nobody shot it that I know of..

The anti attitude LMAO.. You make a total of 2 posts on here and one of them you are MR. got a problem with that?

So you removed a trap placed by someone else, sounds like we have some illegal trap tampering. I bet you kept the trap to. Probably cut the tag off it and used it your self.

As far as following your dog how bout you come to Life Time Finesses Triathlon and see if you can keep up to me.. 2 mile give me a break if you’re winded after 2 miles you do fit the description of Lazy dog hunter. And your only 32 better get to the gym my friend. I want to see pix of the 200 plus inch deer your buddies shoot every year not some 130 class deer that any Joe can shot.  You say you pass on the small one so they get bigger than why would you shoot a 130 class deer? That Is no mature monster that you are talking about. Give him one more year and he would be 150s maybe bigger maybe even get a drop tine.

I posted some pix for you so you can see some ok deer nothing big some in the 150s and I also posted a pic of a management 14 that I shot on are land scoring in the 144s. the other deer in the pic are in the 150s.

We can go on and on like school girls all day but I am done wasting my time on you. I was just voicing my opinion on I do not like your attitude. Some can take that and some can not. There are other ways to say you do not agree with people other than saying. Got a problem with that? (well yes sir I do)   LMAO       have a good one my friend..

One look at the pic and it's not real. After reading both articles it still don't matter, pics don't lie and that rack wouldn't score that big. It doesn't make a difference on how much they doctor them up.

I can understand both sides of the story and yes game farms have their place and I am not advocating that they be shut down or closed .. It is a free land and people that want to take an animal that way have a right as does the owner to be in business but personally it is not the type of hunting that i would do ... My one tined forked buck is a trophy to me after the work that needed to get that one hunting the 1991 season after the blizzard

The Iowa deer was in fact a fenced hunt. Now for my two cents worth, canned hunts are garbage. Disagree all you want but how many guys take pictures next to a dead cow, or pig. If it's for the meat why are these guys so proud they take pictures? If it's because they call themselves sportsman follow my grandfather around in the woods and then reevaluate your sportsmanship status. He's 75 years young and I can gaurantee these guys who hunt out of a blind with recliners in them couldn't keep up let alone drag a deer out of real woods. Further more if there werent farms they couldn't feed themselves. My father and grandfather are sportsmen, hunters, fishermen whatever. When they were growing up hunting clubs were where you go to knock back a few and tell stories. Now hunting clubs are where you go buy an animal to brag? WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO look at the cow I got from the butcher, she's a real beauty. She came right into the hay I couldn't believe it.
