I always knew my Weim "Macey" was very bright, the way she hunts, plays and listens has always been unbelievable to me. I've witnessed many many things over the past 8 years with her that i thought would never be topped. I've seen her crawl into my bed and pull the covers over herself, move a pillow so she is more comfortable. Watched her sit on a couch and watch tv like she was human, witnessed the kids dressing her up in play clothes without a care in the world. Blocking the door when the alarm clock goes off at 5am, when she sees me dressed in camo or the shotgun comes out. Sitting in the drivers seat of the truck when she knows I'm gonna be leaving soon, she'll wait forever, so she doesn't get left behind. She only barks when a stranger or someone she barely knows comes to the door, driveway or runs through the yard, she can be in a dead sleep and know the difference???

Well today was a day that topped all other experiences.

We just moved into a new house this past weekend, so none of us are familiar with our new surroundings yet. I put her on her rope and let her outside by the deck, I walked away for about 5 minutes and came back to let her in, she was wrapped around the deck post about 4-5 times, it looked like a tangled mess, i was barefoot, so i really did not want to go find my shoes. I opened the door and pointed in the direction for her to walk, she just looked at me like I was stupid! I said to her "untangle yourself" so, she looked at the rope and ducked under, then walked around the post, stepped over the rope and then around the post again (1/2 done) then she used her nose and mouth to untangle the rope from underneath her and her legs, then continued to unwrap herself from the post, she made 3 more trips around the post and she was free. It looked like a maze at the beginning and she knew the way out!

I knew she could do it.

i have met macey, and that doesnt totally
suprise me, smart dog!
our black lab suprises us everyday. we have
french doors that lead to a sun room where the
dogs couch is. he closes the 2 doors so the cats
cant bother him, hasnt figured out how to open them
though.

My buddies Gordon setter used to do that, he'd bark for some help, and you'd just motion with yer hand in a circle and say "Go around" and he'd look at ya like, oh yeah... then he'd reverse and get untangled... Its called bein leash savy!  That stuff really makes ya wonder how the hell a dogs brain works.... Man, I could easily Write a book on my dogs, especially my most recent one, Drummer, a Ryman line English setter.  Lets just say Im soooo glad he cant talk,(and talk back!) cause I know that guy can read my mind...much too smart for most humans to handle.  Its a wonder I managed to train him with out him training me... he's trained my parents and my niece perfectly...he's spoiled and he's very proud of it, but knows not to flaunt it to me too much, well except that if he could talk, he'd probably tell ya he owns my bed... :banghead: ;)     -thunderpout

Like they say owning a Weim is like having a 2 year old forever. My weim Jake has learned how to lean back on my Recliner so it will recline. Drives my wife crazy.
