What's on your wall?

Just wondering what some of you have mounted at home, or in the garage? Thought it would be neat to hear some of your stories and maybe a photo.

Well I suppose I can start. A couple years ago I had an opportunity to go on my first black bear hunt. About two weeks prior I lost my glasses in the river (another story). About a week prior to my hunt I realized when it started getting a little dark out I couldn't see through my peep. I hauled my butt to wal mart immediately and ordered the cheapest specs I could. The doc up there gauranteed them before we left. The day we were leaving no glasses so I was panicking. I ran to the nearest archery shop and bought a peep with a bigger hole, the kind with the tinted yellow lens in it. i got it tied onto my bow and threw it in my case unsighted. We finished packing and loaded into the truck when my phone rang, My glasses came in. Got my glasses and motored. We drove all night and arrived at camp at around 6a.m. just in time to sight my bow. Needless to say it was off. WAY off. After about a half hour of messing around and listening to all my idiot buddies giving me heck I was ready. Or so I thought!!! That afternoon we were getting ready for our first sit in the stand and we realized my bag with my clothes and boots was sitting at home in the driveway!! Well I was rocking borrowed camo, street shoes, and a new peep I wasn't really excited about. On my way to the stand I was asked if I needed a sidearm, yeah right I said a thunderhead through the boiler room is all I need. Well if you've ever seen the wolves up north you might understand why I didn't get out of my stand until someone came and got me!!! The next day was pretty calm, we slept off a few cocktails and headed out at about 2 p.m. At around 4:30 I took my first bear with my bow. I never had the money to mount it so it sat in the freezer for two years until I went to taxidermy school and did it myself.

  Mounts in my show room at this time.  This is how I am someday going to get the inside of the house to look.  Guess I need to go on alot more hunting and fishing trips.

I can't afford a showroom!! It's just the walls of my shop!!! Monday i'm hanging a few things in the Rochester Gander Mountain that's gonna be my showroom!!! No really though i'll post some pics soon I have a lot of my stuff up in Lakeville still and once i'm all set up in the new shop i'll get some pics.

Here is an 8 pt buck that I have on my wall.  It is not the biggest buck I have harvested, but it means the most to me out of all the deer I have mounted.  My grandpa was a taxidermist, he had a mild stroke and retired from his taxidermy business.  I shot this 8 pt buck and at deer camp I found him out in the shed where we hang the deer just starring at my buck.  I asked him what he was thinking about?  He replied "I'm going to have to mount this buck for you" (he had been retired from taxidermy for 3 years).  So, he mounted this buck for me and it was the last deer he ever mounted.  He passed away the next year while we were deer hunting.  He died out in his deer stand, in his favorite place to hunt (by upper red lake).

Here are a couple of mounts I have hanging over my computer desk.  The big 8 point was shot on my grandparents farm by my dad the year I was born.  He allowed me to take it and I had this mount done.  The bear I took in 2004 near Ely, MN.



This is my 2005 bear taken in the same area.  This one hangs right over the living room sofa.



This is a nice little boar I took in 2003.

I took this photo of a fellow in Southern Iowa's garage.  A lot of fun just walking in there and seeing what they have harvested over the years.  We could go out on most any evening in the area and spot a half dozen trophy bucks feeding on their land.  Pretty amazing country down there!

We could have the same thing here with a tweaking of our season dates and a little bit of sacrifice for a couple years! And still have all the meat you could eat for those that don't care about the trophy.

  I agree fully with the tweaking of the season dates.  Look at Wisconsin for one, there rifle/shotgun season is 2 weeks after ours is, and I see a lot of big bucks that are shot over there plus they are allowed a buck with bow and gun, so they can shoot two bucks a year.
  I do also know that there is alot of different hunting parties/neighbors that have there own deer management thing going on, which I think is the reason for more of these big bucks.  They all are similar but different alittle.  Like some will say it has to be at least an 8 point, and others it might be that it has to have at least a 16 inch spread before you can shoot it.  Or something along that lines, which leaves more bucks to go and grow.

I agree with TT and Auggie on we need something done with are deer season. The two bucks would be nice or even a lottery buck with the bow, something. as far as not shooting a deer that has under a 16 inch spread. i think most hunters would not know how to tell or would take the time to see. A lot of hunters see a deer and bang bang bang bang till they hit it weather its on the run or not.   who knows just my 1 cent

I have this talking/singing Billy Bass on the wall in my garage until December when I can pawn it off in the family Christmas grab-bag.
