5:20...Apparently there are 3 squads, one who was stuck at the bottom of the access road, up at the access.  28 vehicles had parked on County 4 instead of chancing the hill.  Tow trucks are arriviing and towing vehicles from the county road.  If you have a friend on the lake, nows the time to use the cell phone!

Wow! That really stinks for them, I feel really bad for the guys getting towed, but i guess I can understand the safety issue by the police too. That many trucks on a small county road can sure be a hazzard for other vehicles.

I made a couple of calls allready.

Bad for everyone.  I am sure the deputies would rather be somewhere else, at least a couple of them are avid fishermen.  Don't know who is up there tonite.  A call to our town supervisor confirms it is not a township road to maintain, don't know if it is DNR or County, but if memory serves me, DNR has had it maintained before.  Maybe our huge township parking lot could be offerred as an alternative, I think many snowmobiles trailers are down there, and the township lot is right on the trail to the lake.  Maybe the Snowbugs could work on that question. :tequila; Definetly not good for the bait business to shut down our customers access!

So, did they shut the access down then? Thats terrible for you guys and selling bait.

The bad news is if they throw a ton of salt down on the access, it'll ruin the access for the rest of the season, the Trucks, Sleds, ATV's and trailers will have that access tore up for sure. I suppose shutting it down without salting it and finding a temporary parking lot would be better for everyone involved.

Not good!

Have not heard that they are shutting down the access, 4 wheel drives were going up and down with trailers and without.   Cars, not so much!  The deputy stuck at the bottom was pushed up by a couple of guys who drove out afterwards.  They don't use salt on our roads up here, or at least straight salt.  It is a black mixture, I forget what they call it, but works like black asphalt to speed up the melting process.  Works great on our dirt roads.

We were out there from 9:30 am until 4 pm.  When we came in to the public access, it was tough getting out to the road because there was so many vehicle all over the place.  There were sheriff deputies with lights flashing and cars stuck (having a very difficult time getting up the hill).  When we got our chance, we drove right up the hill with no problem.

Here is another great reason to keep an eye on MNO. It is helpful tips like this that make this a brotherhood. I was gonna include sisterhood also to be politically correct but you all should know what I mean. Don't get me wrong I am not condoning illegal parking. If people are going to act like Lemmings they should get what they get but a heads up is a nice reminder.

We've owned the store 11 years, and never seen the situation handled like this.  Overcrowding at the access is something that happens every large holiday, ice on or off.  On opener people park for a quarter mile around it, up and down the road.  Granted, the snow this year is banked a little higher,  but this seemed a little heavy handed.  People chose the ice route a couple of years ago, and if you remember, trucks went through the day after Christmas.  This year they stayed smart and safe, and got sunk in other ways.

Yep, we were out there from about 2pm to 5:30pm.  Fortunately we were able to find parking in down by the access.  There was one guy going from house to house on his four wheeler warning people about the towing after it had started.  Hopefully he saved a few from getting towed.  I didn't notice the No Parking signs when we drove in but I did notice them when we left.  I was looking for them when we left though.  I was worried about getting up the hill with my 2WD truck as it was even tough walking up the hill.  We managed a bit of a run at the bottom, stayed to the right a bit where there was more snow, and drove right out.  That was a relief I must say.

On the positive side, the crappies were plentiful in 33 feet of water about 24 feet down.  Many small ones but some keepers mixed in.  There were a couple smaller vehicles driving on the ice.  Many vehicles parking on the ice near the access.

We heard some really positive stories today at the store, a couple of guys who stayed around and used snap ropes to pull people up the access, accepting only a thank you for payment.  (The No Parking signs were put up after the fact, you did not miss them on the way down earlier in the day).  The guy who ran around on the wheeler..nice job..Many people offerring to show others where to park up at the County park and ride down to Cigar on their machines with them.  Makes you happy to see the good will....
