Any body have any suggestions on a quiet heater for the fish house. The one I have now is a forced air from the factory. It sounds like a jet engine taking off every time it comes on  and it is loud while its on. I have been using ear plugs and have been able to put up with it. I don't have any wall space for one of those blue flame ones. Just wondering if there is any thing else out there.

Check out the link below.  A friend of mine has the "Portable Buddy", and it works GREAT!  It's really quiet, and can heat up any ice house in a hurry.

What size is the house and do you run a fan?

You can't beat the price on the blue flame vented heaters, Fleet farm has them for under a hundred bucks 10,000 btu's.

Mr Heater makes the Wall buddy, I think they sell for around $139 or so at Gander. I'm not sure how noisy or quiet they are yet. Never seen one in action. I'm guessing they are as quiet as the Buddy and Big Buddy though.

The only other option for you would be to go with the regular Buddy heater or the Big Buddy. You can run them on the floor and move them around or fix them to the wall, the regular buddy is much smaller than any other vented or ventless wall heaters. Both are very quiet heaters.

If your house has good insultation and you run a fan or 2 to move the air around, you can get by with the regular Buddy heater. Anything bigger than 7x14 and you'll probably need the Big Buddy. Both run off 1lb cylinders or can be fixed to a 20 lb tank.

Regular Buddy heaters are up to 9,000 btu's, they are approximately $70-$90 depending where you buy. The Big Buddy is up to 18,000 Btu's and runs about $109-$129

I know what you mean about the forced air ones being loud. And they also burn up alot of battery power. Of course you can power them with a generator but you just add more noise.and monkey business. Part of the enjoyment of being on the ice for me is the quiet and solitude. And Less noise equals more fish. This part you probably did not want to hear but a heater is one of the main components of a fish house and a guy should arrange the place around it. No matter how good a ventless claims to be they still make me nervous. Perhaps you could remodel and add a little cooking burner stove above the heater to use up some of the space it eats up.

The house is 8x20. I fished with Goose this weekend and he has the vented one on the wall. Real quiet. I have a 3 burner oven in there. Like you said I like something vented. There is to many other things like couches and such to install a big one on the wall. There is 2 couches in the back that go into a king size bed and there is a couch in the front that goes into a queen. It worked out great for deer hunting.  I think I was in to big of hurry to buy this one. It was a show demo.  Next year for deer hunting I will plug in a milk house heater to the shed. That should work for that. I still want something for ice fishing. I use a generator like you said. I put it in the back of the truck so thats not that loud. It's a Honda 2000. I'll have to keep looking.

how about adding a reostat. I probably spelled that wrong, but you know what I mean.
slow that fricken fan down a little.
talk to someone at a motor shop.
maybe you can change the fan blade for a different pitch?
just kicking out ideas.
think about it this way. I can't stand the roar of the heater motor in my suzuki on high. but when I turn it down a notch or two it is much much quieter.
it obviously doesn't blow as hard, but I think reducing the speed or force of your fan will not hurt your furnaces efficiency, while becoming more pleasing to the nerves at the same time.

Ive got an Empire vented, fanless heater in my shack...no noise.  I am going to put a small blower or fan of some kind to move the air around.  When it gets reeeal cold the corner holes get a bit icy.  Did you guys notice (most people dont) that the Heater Buddy/Heater Buddy Jr. have wall mounting holes built into the back of the units?  So you can hang em any where out of the way...the mounting possibilities are nearly endless! In portables, on the wall in yer garage, on the handle bars of yer atv.... well that ones a stretch, but Ive thought about it.... That wall mount buddy uses the same stuff and has the low oxygen shut off, like the buddy units....               -thunderpout :happy1:
