Man dies after exposure on Leech Lake ice
Duluth News Tribune
Published Monday, January 14, 2008

A 36-year-old Rogers, Minn. man died from exposure after spending some time on the ice of Leech Lake, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department reported this morning.

Bradley Erikson was found on the ice about 8:30 a.m. Sunday but was not responsive. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, Minn., where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said Erikson had been camping in the Sand Point area of Leech Lake. He had gone into Walker, Minn., Saturday night and left Walker to return to the campsite when his pickup truck broke through thin ice.

Erikson swam across the channel and then attempted to walk to his campsite. But he never made it, collapsing on the ice. He was located by deputies after a Minnesota conservation office discovered the partially submerged truck.

I heard of one, and saw the pictures, that went through on the 28th of Dec at Hunters I don't know if this is the one you are talking about. I stopped in 2 weekends ago to pay the bill for my house and George (the owner) showed me some pictures of one going through. It came out the next day. He put it in his heated garage to allow it to dry out and said all is well.

Does anyone know what channel they're talkin about?  Thats the thing that freaks me out ...the press will give ya these stories, I ASSUME to warn ( or is it scare) people of bad ice, but they never will tell or show ya where exactly it happened... wouldnt that be the most important thing to let the public know? :banghead:  Wouldnt that be the best way to teach the masses where the bad areas are on lakes?  Instead,  all it does is makes people say stupid crap to ya like, "you wouldnt get me out on a lake yet, A guy just went thru the ice on some lake!".....  If they really cared, and not just hyping a story so ya watch they're whole news report, they actually may save someones life someday by being more specific and lettin folks know WHERE the bad ice was.....      -thunderpout :taz:
