Looking for one (for sure) possibly two players (depending on what Scott Pugh does) for the 2nd annual "Pat Turnquist Sucks" fantasy football league.? I am the commissioner unless people want to motion to elect a different one.? I wouldn't be offended if you did.? I will continue to try to keep things as fair as possible.

I have confirmed that: Myself (JeffyO45), Pat T. (Spinach), Tim (Mayfly), John (BigFishGuy), Mike (SnowSnake), Benny (Legit), Lance (Willow Waldo), and Ryan (Don't know what your handle is here) are in for sure, as of now.

We could possibly expand to 12 teams (that is the maximum I would want to go) if enough interest is shown.? We held a live draft at Buffalo Wild Wings at Har Mar.? The cost was $25/person for the league along with $5/person for Fanball hosting fees and $1 per transaction.? I would guess the average a person spent was $30-35 so not much of an investment for alot of fun and a chance to win a little coin.? Respond here or send me a PM if you are interested.? I know it's early but I don't want to be scrambling trying to scrape together players like last year.

And Snowsnake gets no help from me or Jeffy this year either. ;)

Last year he played the old trump card and acted like he didn't know anything about fantasy football, then came out with 7 or 8 wins in a row. ::)

Brandon

Last years draft was the tuesday before the first week. We try to wait as much as possible to allow for any pre-season injuries.

I'd be up for having 12 teams this year if we can find the extra players. That would mean more money in the pot for me, when I win it all this year.  ;D

HE COULD GO ALL THE WAY

i guess it's only fair that as defending champion, and not having a clue what I am doing, i have to give you all a chance at getting some of your money back.

Scott Pugh makes 9 (priority given to those that played last year). ?Brandon would make 10 if he can make the draft with Leech Angler being next in line if Brandon can't play or we find another guy to play with 12. ?Like I said it's obviously early so things can change but just trying to get my ducks in a row. ?Looks like this could shape up nicely.

And I totally agree with Pat. ?SnowSnake for sure doesn't get any help from us this year. ?

It would be fun but if the draft was held on a week day I'm a no goer as I'd be working and not even shur of where or in even what state.? I'd be interested if the draft were held on a w/e.

TTT

I wanted to put a feeler out there to see if anyone wanted to try and do an auction this year?  I brought it up last year and the consensus was we were too near the draft and there were a bunch of first time fantasy players.  I am including an article for everyone to chew on.  Please give some input if you can.

Auction vs. Drafts
Don?t Tell Me You?re Still Snake Drafting?
Courtesy of FantasyAuctioneer.com

If you?re an FFToday reader, it probably means that you take fantasy football at least a little bit seriously. It also probably means that you should never snake draft again. That?s right. Never. Again. Why would you when there is a vastly superior way of picking teams? I am, of course, talking about auction-drafting. Over 95% of fantasy leagues who try auction-drafting never go back to the serpentine format. The added dimensions of bidding and salary cap management make the auction a much more exciting and strategic player selection process. Many well-respected fantasy experts (FFToday?s own Matt Waldman, David Dodds of Footballguys, David Dorey of The Huddle, Paul Charchian of Fanball, and many, many more) have all said they strongly prefer auctions, so you owe it to yourself and your league to find out more about it - so read on.
How It Works
Like snake drafts, people take turns selecting players in a serpentine format. Instead of simply adding players to their rosters, however, participants place them "on the auction block." An opening bid is introduced and auction-style bidding follows ("Going once...Going twice...Sold!"). The league has a preset, imaginary salary cap (e.g. $200) that people cannot go over. The highest bidder adds the player to his or her roster and the winning bid is subtracted from that bidder's salary cap. This process continues until all the rosters are full.
Takes The Draft To The Next Level
As mentioned above, the added dimensions of bidding and salary cap management changes the draft from a relatively slow, wait-and-pick game to one of strategy and guts. The following reasons are why so many savvy fans have switched and have never looked back:
1.   Auctions Are Much More Fair. Everyone is on equal footing because they have a chance to get any player, no matter what their draft position is. If you get stuck with the 12th pick in a 12-team snake draft league, you have no chance at any of the franchise players. In an auction, you have as good a chance as any to get players like LaDainian Tomlinson or Priest Holmes - as long as you?re willing to pay the "going market price." Draft position simply doesn?t matter, so it evens the playing field tremendously.
2.   Auctions Are More Flexible. In a snake draft, you?re forced to get players evenly distributed throughout the draft (i.e. one 1st rounder, one 2nd rounder, one 3rd rounder, etc.). In an auction, you can build whatever team you want, however you want. You can spend 70% of your cap on two or three can?t-miss 1st-rounders. In an auction, you can have both LaDainian Tomlinson and Randy Moss on the same team or Shaun Alexander and Willis McGahee in the same backfield. If, however, you feel that too many 1st-rounders turn into season-breaking busts year after year, you can skip all of them and go after a bunch of 2nd- to 4th-rounders. How about a lineup of Donovan McNabb at QB, Jamal Lewis and J.J. Arrington at RB, and Chad Johnson and Steve Smith at WR? If you feel a more balanced team is the way to go (like in a snake draft), you can also build such a team, but now you have much more control on which players to target. If you're a big Bucs fan and think their offense is on the upswing, you can make sure they?re all on your squad. If you just have to have Brett Favre on your team, he?s yours. You can pick your battles much more effectively, allowing you to have your "fantasy" team makeup.
3.   Auctions Are More Fun. More than half an hour can go by between picks in a snake draft, making much of it a spectator sport. In an auction, you can bid on players you don't want just to drive the price up. Each time a player is placed on the auction block, the whole league can participate, making the process much more interactive. Not only will everyone?s hearts beat a little faster every time "Going twice" is called out, but there are also more opportunities to turn on each other and talk trash about it.
4.   Auctions Are More Strategic. Part of what makes auctions so fun is how much strategy is involved. In a snake draft, the only strategy revolves around "what position should I take in X round," which is followed by the more exciting "everyone after me already has a QB/RB/WR, so I can wait until next round to get mine." The auction draft changes this mindless who?s-next-on-my-cheat-sheet game into one with as much strategy as chess and poker - all rolled into one. Can I drive the price up more or am I going to get stuck with a player I don't want? Should I save my salary cap space for the upcoming bargains or am I going to miss out on all the quality players? When will the bargains be? What kind of a team do I want to build? Should I overpay for the last franchise RB on the board? How do I convince people I want players I really don?t? What other mind games can I play?
Regardless of all these reasons, the best way to convince you is just to have you try it; and it?s never been easier with our online auction rooms at FantasyAuctioneer.com (mock auctions are free). I know auctions are more fun... I do one for baseball.  But I just don't have the time nor with baseball still going on do I want to put in the effort.  I like just doing the straight up and down draft, then trying to figure out week by week who to play.

I guess I don't care either way, but how much longer would it take to do an auction?

I'm open to having an auction draft, sounds kind of exciting. Either way though is fine with me.

Besides the draft being an auction, are there any other significant changes to how the league is run? I'm only asking because BFG says that it takes more time to have an auction league/draft.

the time i was referring to was more for prep time.  Trying to figure out what each player is worth, ect...  but it will add more time to the actual draft itself too.  I would rather just stick with the up and down draft.

also, this would only be my second year in Ffootball, i don't know enough yet to auction draft.  I would probably add a bunch more time myself if it were an auction draft.  I guess if you decide to go auction this year, i would probably be out.  Maybe next year or the year after it might be something I would consider.
also one other thing to consider, the commish would actually have to do things for the auction style through out the year I believe, at least that's the way it is with my baseball league.  You would have a weekly transaction day where you bid on pickup players... and the commish would have to facilitate that.

I did two auction drafts last year and they took less time than the serpentine draft we did last year.  You don't have to do auctions with free agents in season.  You can just go with the standard worst record ranking determines order.  As for prep time there are plenty of auction rankings out there that give bid amounts for players.  It would be just like using a normal ranking sheet to draft.  Then you can adjust the dollar values as the bidding goes for the first few players.

I am fine not doing an auction.  I just thought I would bring it up again.  It is just so much more fair as everyone has a chance at any player.

From the way Jeffy describes an auction draft and the liitle bit that I've read about them, I would really like to try it this year.

How about a vote by the team managers? Let the managers decide and stick with that outcome.

I'll set up a poll on this thread, only the managers from this FFL can vote, we should also pm or email Jeffy045 our votes just to make sure that there is no double voting by anyone in the poll.

You should add a don't care option in the poll.  I don't mind doing it either way and I don't want to vote for one or the other.  I guess I could just not vote at all.
