Last week I borrowed my cousins climber, it was a Lone Wolf Alpha Climber. This thing was sweet! The climbing was a breeze and packing it in and out was just as simple! To top it off the thing is super comfortable. Now I know why he can sit out there so long. I was in heaven after using crappy stands my whole life. The only problem is that they cost about $350.00 so that will have to wait.

Here is a link to the Alpha:  http://www.lonewolfstands.com/shoppingcart/Products/Alpha-Sit-and-Climb-Combo__SACCSH.aspx

Besides last week I used a climber many years ago and the thing was pretty sketchy so I just stuck with the ol' hang on stand and the ladder stands. After using the Alpha I needed a climber so last night I did some driving and visted a few outdoor shops and looked at climbers in my price range. I knew I had seen one at Wal Mart that was about $100.00 so I thought I would check that out too. I found the stand and took it out of the box and it seemed like it was pretty decent and to top it off it was on sale for $75.00 so I thought what the hey. Since then I have done some research on this particular stand that I bought. It is a Gorilla "Wolverine" Climber. After looking around I found out it is actually the Gorilla Grey Back Magnum but it is labeled different for Wal-Mart. I found the same stand at Gander Mountain on sale for $150.00! I also found it at other places on-line for $200.00+. The true test was this afternoon when I arrived at my tree at 2pm. Hooked the stand onto the tree and away I went! Up and then had to come down once and then up again. Got the stand all secured in and sat down and 4 hours later climbed down and could of sat many more hours! I am really really impressed with this stand for the money! Only $75.00. I still want the Alpha but for $75.00 I am very happy.

So the moral of this post? If you need a great climber at a great price pick one of these up. Only $75.00. That is cheaper than most ladder stand and the same price as most hang on stands.

I've got an older loggy bayou with the metal band.  After first getting this stand home I was shocked as to how loud this thing was while climbing the tree.  I though that the designer of this stand had never hunted a day in his life.  I was impressed however, by the comfort of the seat and its total weight.  Since that time I have added two rubber straps to the stand to help quiet the stand while climbing.  Now its truly silent while climbing and the only stand that I feel even competes with it would be the Lone Wolf Climber.  Most of the stands now are around 20lbs.  The loggy only weighs 14lbs and while walking longer distances the weight differences are noticable.  My nephew has the walmart gorrilla brand climber and I can assure you that I would not want to carry that heavy thing in and out of the woods every weekend.  I also find that the less movable parts, the better since i can be up in the tree by the time he untangles his and gets it strapped around the tree. ;)
