You go to the home page, on the left side of the screen is your profile box. At the top, click on the edit profile. You should see "modify profile" click on that, and you should get a drop down menu, look for notifications, and click on that. There are 2 boxes you can check or uncheck. One is for the little black pop up boxes that you see on the forum, and the other is to get notified by E-mail. Uncheck the 2nd one, and you should be OK.

yes it has, but today I got about 20 for the first time and I have not touched anything to change any settings.

Mikey, when you post on a topic...do me a favor and click on the "Attachments and other options" tab below the reply window. You should see a box where it says "Notify me of replies"
Is it checked?

If it is...try un-checking it for awhile....
