Sure can't fix it in this town. Stoopidity runs rampant. They're on a wild binge to cut down every ash tree in the city (seriously....said they're out TWENTY YEARS, they just told me that) before the emerald ash borer eats up all the trees and mates with the zebra mussels. Anyway, one of the idjit companies they contracted with just cut down the two big ash trees on the NL's boulevard. Never roped off the trunk sections when they dropped them, and these were bigger around than I am, easily. I know how to properly fell and rope a tree; started when I was 16 yo. Anyway. three times in a row, about 15' up, they dropped three huge sections, and they came down straight like a missle...right on the sidewalk slabs. I just paid for those two years ago; homeowner's are  responsible for cracked or broken slabs, and it ain't cheap. Went out when they left, and yup...cracked that 2 yo slab the entire length. Called up the head of sidewalks/curbs /maintenance, Dylan, who just happens to be a friend AND the head of our city pedestrian/bicycle group, where I'm the safety advisor guy. Guess who's paying for and replacing the slab? Yup. THE CITY.  He just told me.  :azn: Gonna be brought up by me at tomorrow nite's meeting... gonna be some good advice directed at a few whiteshirts.

AND...a new memo to city contracted tree workers....properly limbing/rigging a tree; as in do NOT drop tree trunks on sidewalk slabs; see video provided by Council Safety Advisor Mr. Mark on proper rigging/felling procedure.......''all in favor, say aye"... Woman gets head stuck in truck tailpipe

(AP) -
First responders had to use a power saw to help a woman who got her head stuck in a pickup truck's exhaust pipe at a Minnesota festival.

KARE-TV says the incident happened at the Winstock Music Festival in Winstead over the weekend.

Firefighters were called to help the trapped woman, who is OK.

The McLeod County Sheriff's Office says the woman was cited for underage drinking.

That story might have been a play off this story from Ohio...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/26/ohio-teen-catches-piranha-like-fish/11433105/ (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/26/ohio-teen-catches-piranha-like-fish/11433105/)

Catch of the day: Ohio teen reels in piranha-like fish

SHELBY, Ohio — Coleman Browning could tell right away that what he caught while fishing in a reservoir Wednesday afternoon was not supposed to be there.

If the eyes and the size of the fish weren't enough, the sharp, jagged teeth certainly gave it away.

"When the game warden came out and saw me catch it, he said, 'What is that?'" Browning said. "I told him, 'I think I just caught a piranha.'"

Indeed, Ohio Division of Wildlife Fisheries Management Supervisor Mike Wilkerson said the fish caught by Browning likely is a pacu — a fish related to a piranha.

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -
Rochester Police responded to a crash on Northbrook Lane and Elton Hills Drive NW.

Only the drivers inside the vehicles were involved.

An officer at the scene said a Honda Sedan was traveling East on Elton Hills Dr. The driver intended to turn right to head south on Broadway.

A grey Toyota SUV involved was stopped at Northbrook Lane before it turned left onto Elton Hills drive. The SUV turned and was hit in the side by the Honda.

No injuries were reported from the crash but, the two vehicles were towed away.

Man, when I was going thru training, even before ya got that far, in addition to taking the MMPI, (anything not "quite right" on that and you were already rejected) we had tons of situations you had to be put thru BEFORE they decided you could do all the training. Then, and only then, did they allow you to take your state boards for your peace officer license. THEN ya had testing for whatever department (cop, sheriff, etc)  ya applied for, then ranked, then put on a waiting list...I just don't get it.

OK, some things that the article doesn't tell you.

If they don't allow some of these exemptions odds are the manure will overflow the pit under the building before the animals are set to go to market resulting in unsanitary conditions or worse in the death of the animals. Now, I've never understood how they get permitted without more pit capacity than they have just to account for situations like this. That and they've become so reliant on custom applicators to pump and apply the manure that this was bound to happen sometime. There are a limited number of custom applicators and only a limited number of days that are suited for fall application. This last fall was terrible in that respect. In much of both IA and MN, it was too wet last fall delaying applicators and then the ground froze early. It made it impossible for the openers to penetrate so the manure could be injected. That meant here in MN as well as in IA, exemptions were applied for last fall so manure could be surface applied to frozen ground. That's just about as bad as applying it to snow covered soil.

Luckily in situations locally the manure was able to be incorporated in the fields when it warmed up a little in November except on headlands or where  corn stalks had been baled off for bedding. After last fall, some here are talking about buying their own tanks and applicators. They'd go back to applying their own manure or at very least, be able to apply enough of it so that this doesn't happen again. Getting manure applied in spring is even more hit and miss than in the fall though. Usually the window of opportunity is narrower with more potential to compact the soil and negatively impact yields. One thing many custom applicators today use is an umbilical system that allows the manure to be pumped from the building directly to the applicator or into a large supply tank in the field then to the applicator so they're not compacting the soil as much as hauling a 7500 gallon tank around. Those umbilical systems are usually too expensive for individual farmers to own unless they're willing to cooperate with each other more.

Liquid hog manure has tremendous fertilizer value. Finishing barn manure in particular applied to soybean stubble at 3500 - 4000 gallons per acre in the fall when soil temps remain below 50 degrees supplies enough nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, zinc and other micronutrients for the upcoming year's corn crop. Typically there's enough phosphorus and potassium leftover for the following year's soybean crop. With a value ranging conservatively from $200 - $300+ plus per acre worth of commercial fertilizer, it's not something anyone purposely wants to dump and just have run off.

I just learned a lot from Dotch's post, since I know nothing of farming. The newspaper should therefore issue a correction and be notified. Should I ask the DNR to issue another exemption, as I've found something else that's blue and fulla manure?     :rotflmao:

Up here, hogs have been taking a back seat to the cattle and turkey barns, (not as many pig farmers anymore)...so most of the fertilizer is coming from them. We used to get our fields sprayed with pig chit, and you can tell the difference in the bushel per acre.

Now, I've never understood how they get permitted without more pit capacity than they have just to account for situations like this.

Government lobbyist and farm bill legislation; brought to you by the same folks who don't think it is necessary to required double fencing to keep CWD infected deer from escaping the farms they were shipped to.

Woman facing assault charges after allegedly driving over her son

March 19, 2019

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A rural Rochester woman is facing second degree assault charges after allegedly driving over her son.

58-year-old Cynthia Grund was arrested after the incident 5:15 p.m. Monday on the 3500 block of County Road 150 SW.

According to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, Grund’s 37-year-old son has problems with alcohol. When Grund and her husband told him to leave their home, he went out and laid his body across the driveway. He allegedly said, “Why don’t you just run me over?” The sheriff’s office reports Grund then did just that.

Grund’s son was taken to Mayo Clinic – Saint Marys Hospital with significant injuries to his head and pelvis.

Cynthia Grund told the responding deputy, “He had been drinking all day. He didn’t think I was going to do it. We gave him a chance.”

I guess she will get probation, like the guy that chased the people with his car, got out waving a big knife, then tried again to run over them.

Two Canadians were injured Tuesday after a semi collided with at least one cow on Interstate 35 near the Geneva exit.

Lovepereet Singh, 24, of Edmonton, Alberta, and Gurshehbaj Singh, 25, of Edmonton were taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with injuries deemed not life-threatening.

Lovepereet Singh was driving a 2013 Kenworth semi tractor south on I-35 when he was unable to avoid multiple cattle in the road, according to the Minnesota State Patrol, losing control of the vehicle and causing it to roll at 3:47 a.m.

At the time of the crash, Minnesota State Patrol advised there were seven to eight cattle walking on the road.

Albert Lea police, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted on scene.

Obviously there is something bent about a person to want to murder someone - especially a stranger.

It just goes to show you how much surveillance video there is out there.  When the authorities need to track someone down, they have new tools to do it.  But the guy wrote notes on the bullet casings, still had the alleged murder weapon on him when he was arrested, and had a written "manifesto" expressing ill will towards corporate America on his person?!?     What a maroon.  And what a sad tragedy.
