I call fowl.....
Becks in Elk River. they got pickles but no DILL.........so i'd bet if you have dill you could get pickles...the cooler she took them out of seemed full. call and find out.........
1/2 bushel was $50.00. think last year was $46.00. the smaller 3-4 inch pickles are usually more spendy, but they are the ones i want. :happy1: my cukes arent even close to flowering yet. but i dont use mine for canning.
-
I'm hoping mine have emerged and aren't washed out. I'll find out tomorrow.
-
You scared me. Our gardens have taken several weather hits this year.
My wife and daughter found a decent deal on Apple's a couple of weeks ago and made some apple butter. Then, they gave half of them away. It was to an elderly lady we know so I'm OK with that.
-
Tomorrow, I'm going to try something different.....
I found a recipe for onion pickles that I'm going to try. I have an overabundance of table onions, so I figured what the :censored: :rotflmao:

those other cukes i posted are a sweet pickle.......there good, but i eat them sparingly!!!!!!

I don't mind regular dill spears in my BM, but I usually put a little of the juice on top of the mix too. I like some horseradish & a couple of shakes of some Tabasco as well. But we usually have a jar of these around too...............https://www.walmart.com/ip/Famous-Dave-s-Sweet-N-Spicy-Pickle-Spears-24-fl-oz-Jar/20850661?ad............. mainly just for our BMs.
-
I have seen them but haven't tried them yet but I will.
-
i got a recipe for bloody mary mix thats really good. it has horseradish and pickle juice in it. not Tabasco though!!!
-
I do put a splash of pickle juice in mine. A tiny shot of Worcestor sauce sometimes. Celery salt is common too.
-
Well.....don't keep us in suspense. What's the recipe? I don't have enough ripe tomatoes yet. But I will have. Picked the first 4 ripe ones yesterday and made the first salsa recipe for my grandkids.
-
:happy1:

OK.......that looks good. But you aren't using tomatoes from the garden. I would have to buy Clamato Juice.

I start with Mr. & Mrs. T's Bold & Spicy, then kick it up a notch. A lot of the same stuff is in my mix.

I got to help make salsa yesterday. When I say help it means I get to dice up the peppers. Actually, I have to dice the peppers since no one else will. Nine cups of habaneros, scotch bonnet, jalapenos and onions to make 9 pints, I think, of hot salsa.
-
Man that is too hot to handle. :sleazy:

Been there, done that! Had to calm back down to just Jalapeno's. :surrender:

I spent a good part of Saturday chopping up all kinds of peppers for MY salsa. I hope it's good. My wife and daughter couldn't stay in the kitchen very long. My daughter did try a very small amount. She had to drink some milk.
Then, I got some very discouraging news. You had better sit down for this. They're going to make some ketchup next week. I asked why they wanted to ruin perfectly good tomatoes by turning them in to ketchup. They laughed at me.
Time for a beer.
-
Probably going to use ketchup to trap some smurfs... :coffee:
-
I suggested that, since it will be their first time making ketchup, they experiment on one tomato. That idea didn't go far. I told them that the ketchup from one tomato would be a lifetime supply for me.
I know how Rodney Dangerfield feels.
-
:happy1: 32 qts green pickled maters. Had 33 but 1 jar broke when I put it into the hotbath water. Also 5 qts saurkraut there. Nummy!

It's worse then the train across the river! :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Happy to report that the ketchup never happened. They used the maters for some pizza sauce. I don't think my suggestion of using just one cherry tomato to experiment had much impact on their decision. I don't think they were even listening. I'm used to that.
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: You've got them right where you want them.
-
:pouty: can't get the picture to post. :doofus: what kind of reff raff is running this show. :sleazy: :rotflmao:
74 jars of horseradish. Had roots that must be on steroids. Some measured 2 and 2 1/2 inches across
-
Holy balls Glenn. That is a lot of horseradish. I have it growing here but I just go buy a jar when I want some.

Speaking of horseradish, I have a couple of questions.
Is all horseradish root the same?
What makes one batch of horseradish hotter or milder than another?
We were going to make some a few years ago but things didn't work out as planned. I still can get the roots but not sure what to do with them.

i cant and dont have an answer to the hotter or milder horseradish. the only thing i can speculate about this hotter then hello stuff is they add something to it to make it uneatable. i've been making horseradish for over 30 years, here's what i have learned.
1) dig it, clean it and grind in all in the same day.
2) keep it out of water as much as possible. i dig it, wash it off but dont keep it in water. when im done cleaning it i rinse it off, keep it out of water.
3) i use a pressure washer to help clean it, it cuts cleaning down immensely. still gotta scrap it a bit.
4) once its all ground, i let it sit for about 30-45 minutes.
5) my ingredients are simple. some salt, lemon juice and vinegar. i use a brand of vinegar calls thats smart. 4% acidity. this is a bit of a waiting game. i add vinegar as needed, not to much, need to allow the horseradish to absorb it. when i feel its got enough is when you stir it up with a slotted spoon juice kinda runs a bit out of the spoon.
6) i use baby food jars. once filled i let set in the frig for 2 days. then in the freezer making sure all jars are upright. once from i put them in brown paper bags doubled up. this keeps them from turning a bit brown. back in freezer.
i've had people tell me i make the best horseradish they've ever had!!!!
-
Thanks, Glenn.
