Well after a change in plans we decided to hit the ol' miss. The river is one of my favorite places to spend some time fishing. You really never know what you are going to get into. We decided to hit a stretch of river in St. Paul near Hidden Falls. We wanted walleyes and have caught and seen some pigs in these waters. We kept it simple and dropped jigs over the side of the boat. We didn't have time to get live bait so we just used "Gulp" minnows. Walleyes we did not find but we caught 6 awesome cat fish ranging in size from about 4 lbs to a fish we estimated at 15lbs. My buddy also lost one that had to be huge. The thing would not come off the bottom and when it would start to come then the drag would go and off to the races. We had to start the motor to chase this fish. It was a blast...and of course we didn't bring a camera but we did have a camera phone and this is a shot from today. We will be back and better prepared!

There may be some offensive language...Just a warning. I didn't edit it out...

The smallmouth came on a fly rod.

Good vid!  Man, those carp put a good bend on the rod, eh?  How'd you and Tom do yesterday?  Any carp on the fly?  (If you used marshmallows, the secret is safe with me! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D)

That video is from yesterday. The carp did not respond to any top water presentation Tom threw at them. They were again feeding on the top everywhere just like last week. I even tried a small worm and a plain hook near the surface thinking one would take it but I couldn't get that to go. We only manged one cat as they were not biting like they did the week before. We got a few more fish and the smallmouth and the big carp made it worth it. What a fight.
