Lake Geneva Report 08/20/08

Wednesday 8/20/08 Report 

Fished Wednesday with long time client Eddy Mueller. We started out at 5:00 am trolling over the tops of the weeds in 14 to 17 fow for about a 1/2 hour. Ed banged a decent pike on a chartreuse/silver blade spinner bait. We also landed 3 largemouth about 17/18 inches. As soon as daybreak came that bite was all over.

Ed is not a big fan of casting due to some physical restrictions, so he fishes dead sticking with 2 rods while I casted out slowly working a Carolina Rig. Today we had to hopscotch around to find our fish and the bites were very light. For some reason they didn't want much to do with a leech today and none of our smallies were caught on leeches. This is very unusual for late August, especially since I have 3 lbs of leeches at home.

We did manage our fair share of smallmouth today, but had to keep moving from spot to spot to get our totals up. Looking forward to some cooler weather that will improve the day bite and keep the fish schooled up tighter.

**In every species of fish I've angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn't, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.
