I have a game farm and I will sell you one to mount next month when they are completely prime.

The later in the season they are taken the better they will be. I would have to say that about 1 in 25 shot in MN are true mounting class birds. And even these could be better. Take it from some one who has put a few together. If you want a truly beautiful mount take up the game farm offer, and get it in Dec. or Jan. You could purchase a truly beautiful and flawless specimen for less than you could drive anyplace to shoot one.

im from brainerd and in past years i would shoot countless woodies. i have shot some that are big and beautiful, most are gone by the time they are ready to mount (still have to many pin feathers) but i would say whats the point of putting something on your wall that you didnt shoot and have no story for.

Steve,
You would be surprised how many people appreciate beautiful taxidermy just for the ART FORM that it is. Since you worked for the DNR, you should also know it is illegal to buy, sell, trade any form of migratory birds such as waterfowl. Even a mounted specimen that was taken legally in the wild. There is no better alternative than a pen raised bird. Especially if someone just wants to have a gorgeous Woody in their home, office, cabin, see where I am going. I used to think every mount had to have a story too. But after being in this business long enough I have grown to really appreciate it for what it is. ART. Some people do not have the access or desire to hunt, but they still enjoy a beautifully done mount.

I would agree ( art ) the only thing better than a good painting or print is a mount.

to tell the truth I have many antlers around that i did not take myself. I just kinda have a thing for them.
and if I cant get the story behind them,I dont make one up.

It's like hanging a painting or pic that you did not shoot or paint. you still enjoy it   :whistling:

  • not alot of birds, but alot of memories made...
Lake titlow north of Gaylord....go to Big island then go to the west side to set up...we always pound the woddies there....
When you make your ducks to eat, nobody goes "jeez these are good...they musta been flyin when u shot them"....so i say water poppin is A-OK!!
