There are a lot of different types of hunters that are part of this site.  This Saturday is the opening day for whitetail deer firearm season.  What results are you hoping for?  Do you want a trophy buck, or nice eating doe, or are hoping that something just walks by the stand?

Please share your hopes or dreams.

First i would like a doe. I saw this deer 3 years ago. 450 yards away. Score around 200 and dress out about 350 lbs. That's the one i want. but he is going down hill now. I hope not .
Everyone good luck and be safe.

I am looking for some good eatin venison. If it has antlers that is a bonus. More than anything I want to see my 13 year old son get his first deer.

I am hopping JakerGreen gets a nice deer.  Not too nice, we can't have him thinking he is some natural expert out of the gate.   :happy1:

I am just hoping to see deer move around.  If I have the opportunity to hit a doe for the meat that would be great, and if I can snipe a monster on the last buck tag of the year that would be purely a bonus.

I'm hoping to see some deer movement so i can put my nerves to the test. Tagging a doe would be awesome, but tagging my FIRST buck would be outstanding. The old man says he's been seeing turkeys in our area. Seeing some turkeys would be pretty cool too.

I'm hoping that my 12 year old -- Oober Ponage -- gets his first deer this weekend.  I'll be sitting with him in stand and showing him all the best tips I got.  Looks like the weather is going to cool off to the 30s so that should be good as long as it's dry.  I just want my boy to enjoy his time out there so he wants to keep coming back for more.

I'm looking to NOT freeze my arse off in my stand, enjoy being out the woods and being WITHOUT kids for 9 days or so.  This is my only week in the whole year that I am without them, so don't think I'm a mean mom!!  I just enjoy this break, although towards the end of the week, I can't wait to get back home to see them!  The first couple of years it took A LOT for me to be able to be without them, especially when they were babies.  But I'm getting much better at it now! ;D

The one thing I DO NOT look forward to is walking out to my stand by myself...I hate that!  It's dark, creepy and scary all at the same time.  My husbands walks with me up to a certain point and then we have to split off.  He'd go the whole way with me, but I do not let him because he has a long walk in to his stand and goes way out of his way to get me in that far.  I only have about a 3-5 minute walk after he leaves me.  But If you saw me going in to my stand you would probably laugh your butt off because I go in so fast and I make a ton of noise!  I'm always afraid of running into the "unknown"!  And NO- I DO NOT go out with a bullet in my chamber, I'm way to jittery and excited to do something that stupid.  I wait until I get out in my stand to run one through the chamber.  And by the time I get to my stand I am always just so relieved and thankful that I made it there in one piece and without any run in's with anything!

The other thing that I do not look forward to is of course going to the bathroom out there...sucks!
It is times like this, that I know you guys all got the better end of the deal there!  No doulbt about that, I HATE taking off everything just to get the job done, it would be sooo much easier just whippin' it out!  (to be blunt, sorry!)  ;D  But, it's true!

Anyway, I also hope to get a deer, buck or doe - it doesn't matter to me either way.  Of course, it would be an extra added bonus to get a big buck, I've never got over a 6 pt. yet, so that would be really cool!

I'm just really looking forward to being out in the woods-...once it's daylight anyway!

I am very excited yet nervous about this year.  First of all I would like to get my fiance on her first deer, being her first year hunting.  We will be hunting together the first day to work out the basics in the stand.  It would fulfill me nontheless to see her shoot and harvest a deer I will play second fiddle to that unless she pile drives a wallhanger then it's on!!!
My expectations are prayers for safety fairchase and happiness I hope you all have a stellar time!!

  • not alot of birds, but alot of memories made...
Im taking a different approach this year...since the past 6 years ive gotten plenty of deer so im deciding to sit back behind a camera this year...so on sat-sun im gonna tape my little brothers first time deer hunting and hopefully catch his first deer on camera. then next fri-sun im going to film my g/f of 4 1/2 years deer hunting....hopefully she can tag her second buck ever.  Ive done alot of filming this year by getting some great fishing/duck hunting/goose hunting/ and some pheasant now...if i can add some deer into it that would make me OOBER happy :)...look for my film at scheels or gander mt....haha...j/k...but if you EVER see a Movie called "Smokin Barrels" that would be mine :)....good luck every body....ill keep in touch if i film anything good!! :woot:
When you make your ducks to eat, nobody goes "jeez these are good...they musta been flyin when u shot them"....so i say water poppin is A-OK!!

My hopes are to see my 11 year old take his first deer Sat. morning, go fishing in the afternoon, and duck hunt Sunday morning and then cut the deer from previous morning over a few beer while watching the vikings game.

This year I get to take a friend out that has never hunted before so for opener I hope to see something that she can shoot so she will want to keep hunting and mabye get some of her non-hunting friends possibly interested. And I wouldn't mind seeing one of the bucks I've been scouting this year.

I am looking forward to a safe hunt.  Normally there are a larger group of us going, however this year we have all split up to different pieces of property.
So this will be the first time in 5 years my daughter and I will be alone on a back 80 acres.
We went there last weekend to check for signs.  And my daughter found 3 nice scrapes and then
backed up 30 yards from there and set up stand.    I will be on the other side of the woods.

This will be the first year we are not in the stand together being she is 14.   I will praying she is able to land any deer.   She is a good shot.   So I am confident if a deer comes with in 50 yards of her she will knock them down.

I am dreaming of the big 12 pointer we saw last year and hoping he comes back around.
He seems to come out just at quitting time.  They are so damn smart.

I am hoping and praying for everyone to have a safe hunt.  I hate hearing the stories of the
accidents that happen.   And I am not so happy when I hear of people shooting people taking sound shots, not sure what they are shooting.  Know your target and whats beyond.

My mother freaks out during hunting season,  she worries about my daughter and I in the woods.
We are on private property I tell her.  She says that doesn't matter, people come hunt where ever they want these days.   Remember Vang. I hope after 5 years she can loose some of the worrying she does about us.

I am hoping and dreaming of venison and a safe hunt.

I'm hoping to put something in the freezer. Construction is slow and it is a long winter feeding the family. Venison is always a huge help. Doe,buck.adult or yearling dont really matter too much. After all you cant eat antlers anyway.
