Radiator fan removal

Looking for help from any of the car guys/gals here.

I have to replace my water pump on a 2002 dodge ram 5.9L. I don't have the spanner wrench for holding the water pump pulley to loosen the nut for radiator fan. Any one have any tricks for this? I have in the past knocked it loose with a punch and hammer but I don't have the right punch anymore, and I don't want to bend the shaft. Is there a universal spanner wrench out there at an auto parts store or something.. Any help would be appreciated.

i believe that is right handed thread, put a wrench on and hit wrench
with hammer.

I knew you would chime in right away, thanks. Yes it is right handed.

Won't that just spin the pulley? It seems to be on pretty tight. I tried several things last night and could not get it loose.

I'll give it a whirl.

there should be bolts holding the pulley on, get a flat bar
in there and you the bolts to hold the pulley

The pulley is actually pressed on, no bolts. I'll give the hammer-wrench a try and see how it goes. I am sure I can get it off but I don't think its going to be easy. I need to get it done before it gets really cold again.

I am in East Bloomington. I won't be able to get at it again until tomorrow. I am at work today and then off to my second job (bartending) tonight.

If it comes down to it I will just buy a new fan clutch and cut up the old one to get the thing off. It will get done one way or another. I just hope this is the end of the repairs.

The heat has been horrible the last week or so and I found the thermostat gasket was leaking. Replaced that and then the waterpump started leaking. If I have to replace the heatercore I am going to be pissed. That is not a fun job. I believe it is ok but we will see, both hoses are warm going in/out of the core. Keeping my finger crossed.
