Hey all,
Ice conditions have just started to improve slightly, with the colder weather conditions.  Unfortunately the main roads are not in very good condition.

The ramp at McKinley park is in very poor shape, with some very deep ruts and bumps the first 100 ft or so. The slush and water that was so bad last week has begun to freeze again, but it has left some very large ruts at the ramp.

The snow has melted down a great deal which has made it possible to travel off the roads, but it's very difficult to tell just what is ahead of you.

Snowmachines are having a better time of it since the re-freeze and it may be the best way to deal with the poor conditions.  I did see a couple of trucks on the lake today but I'm not taking mine out there just yet.

There is still plenty of ice under the top layer of snow and slush. I would guess about 30 inches of ice with another 6 to 10 inches of re-frozen slush and snow on top of that.

Venture with caution, or be prepared to spend more time out there than you had planned. :oops1:
