This was the first time in many years I missed opening weekend on Mille Lacs. My fishing partner, who is my uncle and also retired, doesn't see the need to deal with the crowds or the weather if he doesn't have too. So we made a plan to hit the big pond mid-week after opener. The day time bite was slow but steady. It wasn't until dusk that we got into the eater size walleye. All in all it was a great trip. Here are a few pics.

Nice report Joe and nice fish too. Are you and your uncle twins, either that or he didn't catch any fish?

Keep the reports coming in.  :happy1:

Unfortunately my uncle went all day Wednesday without a fish until the evening bite. I think I only kept one that night.

I noticed a lot of changes in the wardrobe. Now that's a report.

I started out the day wearing every bit of clothing I brought with and by mid afternoon the wind died down and it got hot. I even had to shed the long underwear. The next morning I had to put all those layers of clothes back on.

I should also mention we were slip bobber fishing in 5 to 8 fow with leeches. We spent the entire time fishing Isle Bay making one trip out as far as Spider Island. We spent the night at Father Hennepin State Park and then fished until about noon the next day.

I was a little depressed to see that Pat's was closed. They had a bar, restaurant, bait, and motel. Years ago it was called Ozzie's. I suppose it's a sign of the times.

Think i'm going to stay local again for the opener and fish with my good buddy Marshall...then hit Mille Lacs the week of to dodge the crowds.

no kidding!  I can't wait for opener, where it will be easier to locate fish instead of constantly drilling holes!
