Deal would preserve northern Minn. land

The Associated Press
ST. PAUL, Minn. — A proposal to set aside more than 187,000 acres of forest and wetlands in north-central Minnesota will be unveiled at the state Capitol.

If the deal gets a go-ahead, it would be the largest public-private land conservation project in recent Minnesota history. The area under consideration is almost as large as the entire existing state parks system.

The Minnesota DNR and several conservation organizations are behind the proposal. It would be funded with constitutionally dedicated sales tax proceeds that begin flowing into state coffers this summer.

The land is owned by a Finnish paper and timber manufacturer, which would be allowed to periodically cut it for timber. But no development would be allowed, and the public would have access for hunting, hiking and other purposes.

did I miss it or does it not say what type of designation this land will have?  I would like to see a comparison of this land on a map compaired to the rest of the state just to put in in perspective. and then I would like to go by some land that buts up to a corner of it.
