I'm wondering if anyone knows if its possible to reverse the safety on a shoot gun. (SX 3 Winchester)
The gun is right handed but I'm left handed.
So is it possible to reverse the safety switch so the safety pushs off from the left hand side ?

Thanks in advance for any replies on this topic.

I know its possible on some guns, not sure on yours.... call Joes Sporting goods, they have a good gun dept.  Ahlmans is a really good place to deal with for that stuff also....

I am going to disagree with you on this one.  While They have a decent variety of guns, a few of the staff don't hve a clue what they're taling about.  example 1:  a few weeks after the .460 S&W Mag came out, I went shopping around for prices as I was thinking of picking one up.  I had just been at Gander Mountain looking (andtouching) one, and went to Joe's.  Once there, I was told that the .460 woldn't be avaiable in MN for a few years, as it was a pistol that was a "western pistol working it's way east" and wouldn't be available in MN for a few years.

Example 2:  Looking at getting anew rifle for longer range hunting, I was looking at getting a .300 RUM.  Again, at Joe's, I was told that the .300 RUM was no longer in production and that it wasn't feasable to buy one.  I then talked to a rep from Remington and was tol that the .300 was very well still in production.

IMO, the hnting staff can do so much better and be moe knowledgeable.  that's just my two cents.

I noticed you didnt say that the experts at Gander had answers for your questions... a Rep did.... Im not sure who ya talked to behind the desk there at Joes, but they have some very good gunsmiths at the store, at least they used to, Ive stummped many a gun dept employee with questions such as these, but you do need to talk to the right people, and not just some kid or other salesperson that throws out opinions, you can find that type in any outdoors store.... Ahlmans is the better route, Liabs is another that has been around for years....

I don't usually ask too many questions at Gander, as I can answer my own questions better than some of the staff there, if you can find someone.  I was there yesterday getting bait (I know, off topic), but had to get someone from the hunting department to help with the bait (no one in the fishing department).  If I have a serious enough question, I will call the company directly instead of asking someone that doesn't know the difference between a .22 and a .30-06.  Let's not even get started on Dick's Sporting Goods..........    :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Yeah Dicks has really fallen of in that Dept. since being bought out... I used to know the guys when it was Galayans and bought a few OU's and other things there.... wont anymore, dont even think they have a gun staff do they? :whistling:  To defend Gander a little,  there are some awesome guys at Ganders Maple Grove store that I met through shooting Sporting clays that are as good as anybody, but Ive been to alot of gander mntn's where I could be running the gun dept., and that aint sayin much. ;D Alot of these places just hire 20 yr old guys (to save $$$)that like to hunt/fish and THATS their experience.... 0-5 yrs of them thinking they know all there is to know.... like the guys selling the cell phones in the best buy/box stores selling ya guitars on a different wall......

I agree.  I used to go to Dicks quite a bit because of thier points system for my hunting/fishing stuff.  After the fishing/hunting (I think they call them the "lodge staff") guys got to know me, they would send anyone with a fishing question (especially musky fishing) they couldn't answer over to talk to me.  I would gladly help answer questions if I could, but after they did that a few times, I went up to the manager (who was also sending people to ask me questions) to either hire me as part of thier staff, or stop sending people over to me.  I was there to shop and nothing else.

the safest thingto do is call Wincheter and get them to answer your question.  Then, just about any good gunsmith should be able to do it, pending it can be done.

A qualified gunsmith can put in a left hand safety for $65 to $85.  I had the guys at the Frontiersman call their gunsmith and that is what he quoted.

Have worked at joes for two years I am guessing you might have asked one of the people who doesn't normally work behind the counter.  Bob the gunsmith is one of the best in the country so he would know if the safety can be switched because it is designed that way or if it needs special parts to complete it.  Also there is a guy named Muskie Mike, who is about 62 years old (and doesn't work Wednesday or Thursdays if you are going to go look for him) who is more than knowledgeable.  Also Doug Sheets is a very good resource.  Not sure when you went in, but unfortunately most of their "A" staff works days.  Just my two cents.

If it's the same Bob I remember, he used to work for Gander Mountain and Burger Brothers before it was bought out by Gander Mountain.  If it's him, it will be VERY hard to stump him with a gun repair question.

That is the bob, he is one sharp tack when it comes to guns.  He sould rattle off gun information that would basically sound like German to me.  He has been having his son training with him a lot for some time now so that he can help with the demand that people place on his skills.

I like Joes.. always found that if they didn't have the answer they would find it and get back to you... Bob gave me some leads to find a left handed stock for a beretta before. gander, dicks, cabelas... I tend to only price hunt there, if I need advice I seek it out through other means.

I Haven't delved into a SX-3 but i have a SX-2 and was able to reverse the safety with a needle nose and a small punch.. If you're mechanically inclined take the trigger group out and study the area above the trigger and/or safety - if not leave it alone and bring it into a gunsmith...  $65-$85 sounds a little steep to reverse a safety, i don't believe it would cost that much?
