Hey I got a secret to tell, the river is open so dont tell anyone OK!!!! Man its been a long time comming but a bitter sweet end to the ice in the main channel and some of the back waters. Some of the landings are still frozen so pushing your boat out is still on. This means the flat is my ship of choice and will be untill the big chunks of ice and the roads make it ok to get the big boat out. But I have always said its not the boat that catches fish but the angler and for the past few days its been a either a long line bite with a ring worm or a river rig and a floating jig head to put my fish in the boat and in the fry pan. The weather man says 40- 50 degree weather again this weekend so I believe all the landings should be wide open by next week. Also the ice fishing has been just crazy. Last few outings have been some of the best crappie action I have seen almost all winter. Still hitting them in the deep water as deep as 30 fow. Also to make thing fun a few white bass to really bend a rod. Jiggn spoons with a waxie or a minnow head.
