Jiggle - There are a few lakes up in your area that you need a canoe on.  I plan on hitting those up a bunch next spring.

Dkhntr - Didn't get out last night but if not this weekend next week for sure.  The first river run is next weekend so I have to take 'er out for a test drive before then.  Found someone that have two extra deep cycle batteries that will give them to me (for a few beers).  So that is bonus.

Metro Joe - Since the wife has said at least 2 years to a regular boat I figured I couldn't pass up a good deal on a sturdy canoe when I saw it.  She will have fun also because she likes the outdoors just about as much as me.  Now I just have to sneak in the fishing rod when we go out.  ;D

Scott,

I stumbled upon some lakes in the Grand Rapids area that I know have great potential.  When's the next time your going to go up?  I was thinking I might go up for Labor day weekend.

Jigglestick,

I made it here.  Nice looking site!

Hog eyes,
I knew you would  :)
thanks for the compliments.
we make no claims to be the biggest or the best, but we are laid back with our open door policy and that seems to be good enough for most.

labor day weekend is the kick off to the greatest time of year for me. it is when itasca county shines. guns a blazin at the local trap ranges or local gravel pits. fine tuning our rusty wing shooting skills, or sighting in the ol' twenty two that never really needs to be sighted in, we just like to plink ;)
the ruffed grouse unaware of their grim future as the hunters poise to take foot to miles of seemingly endless trails and huntable forests.
mallards and woodies feed carelessly in hidden beaver ponds only to be rousted by a young teenage boy and his single shot 20 gauge given to him by his grandpa. with any luck he will swat two on the water with his first shot.
archers practicing from any angle and elevation in anticipation of the up coming bow season. then a little later, the occasional sounds of high power rifles in the distance zeroing in at a hundred yards.
it all boils in a grand gathering that is the opening of deer season!
the late fall will have a snowy white finally that will meld into ice fishing, our reward for being stubborn enough to not fly south for the winter.
another month of work without distraction then onto the torturous time that nags us to play hooky for at least one fall weekday to take the pooch out for that one on one encounter with a feathered friend.

yes hog eyes, welcome to MNOutdoorsman

Don't know.  I want to get up there but I am not sure yet when it is possible.  The wife is heading back to school in a few weeks so maybe I can sneak away for a weekend and we can hit some of those small lakes you speak of.  Heack maybe even the river.  ???  I will let you know.

I LOVE IT so far...  Ready steady for two guys to fish out of with all the tackle.  Landed half dozen or so redhorse carp which put up a great fight in the river.  If anyone wants to fish the river South of Monticello to Anoka just let me know.  With out a jet boat you won't be getting too far on the river with out a canoe or kayak.

Has anyone used one of them motors that have been converted from a prop to a jet type thing? I talked to a guy who had one and used on the minnesota and he said it was the cats meow for rivers. He did mention that doing the conversion reduces the HP about 15-20 too. Just wondering if anyone has any expierience with one. By the way this guy won the catfish tourney we were in.
