I will have to admit, that is was just a little too far off this season, with the ice out date. Check out the lake cam, she is very cold and windy today and the lady of the lake is very angry today also. The ice was officially out on April 25 and I think I said the 29. Which by the way, is definitely going to work for me. It will give us just enough time to warm up the water temps and we should have a pretty decent opener. But, I think that it will happen like that every year, only because I try to be very optimistic every year. I do have some irritating news on the netting front this season. The Band Members have been netting for the past few weeks up in the garrison area as that had been the only open water on the lake.

The nets that are being pulled are full of walleyes again this season. I know it is a sad, sad thing to take walleyes when they are so vulnerable or any species for that matter. But, it is what it is, and there is nothing we can do about it. I just want them to take what is lawfully theirs and get! I have found that it is the best and most effective way to manage your anger on this issue. I have nothing against the Native American Tribes or for that matter any race, only that they have special laws and treatment given to them over and over again. Tribes and our own government are not giving the rest of us an even playing field. Which by the way, in case you did not know it, is a foreign government, within our own government? By the people, for the people, and that just does not seem to be happening at this juncture in our history. Especially the One Nation under God part.

Let us also not forget that, we are all human beings on this planet, and if at some point we do not all learn to co-exist together on this planet, in peace. Then the Human race will become something much more than greedy, selfish and self-indulgent, into something much more sinister and terrifying then we could have ever imagined, and there may be no future for any of us. Anyway, do not get me going on the Tribal thing, It was only meant to be an FYI thing, not an apocalyptic thing. We will be ready, willing and waiting for you all over the next two weeks for the kick off to the 2009 open water season.

That is pretty much it for now at Rock Central. We will be working until the cows come home over the next two weeks and I do have one cabin left open for the 2009 opener. If you need it, we have it, so call for it, if you need it. If you call and do not reach us personally, leave me a message and we will get back to you that evening for sure, as always.

Be safe

Have a great week

We will see ya

When we see ya

hope this year is a good one for you...I agree 100% about the band...they have the casino, hotel, eddys, gas station, grocery store, and they still need walleyes....they should be happy with all the money they have taken from the little resorts like you and I. But you cant blame just them people just keep opening there wallets and handing it to them....opener eddys will be packed full and so will be the casino hotel when the little guy is trying to do whatever it takes to stay open before they have us all gone...I know you had a rough year this winter and we have lowered are rates for this summer but keep the faith and I will pray we both have a good summer....

I hate it when this talk starts. Netting isnt hurting anything the DNR said so last fall Besides this is a fishing forum. Also no nets were lost this year(FACT). The new regs for netting are posted and well enforced, and most of all negativity helps nothing and there is nothing anyone can do about it so its best to accept it and and be the better person about it.    :blablabla:

No hard feelings its just that there is no "agenda"  to have everyone gone and there is no unlimited money. The bands investments went with the economy as well. The casino helps increase tourism its good for everyone. There is no land aquisition goal anyone who believes that is deeply misinformed besides everyone needed a gas statuion around here there was nothing between onamia and garrison, there is also a shortage of hotels and lodging in the aerea., and it helped provide alot of in the aerea. So it would be devasting if something were to happen to the tribe the whole aerea would be set back about twenty years. Its time we get past that segragated way of thinking there are tons of other causes in our lives that deserve more  attention and compassion than this perpetuated issue. Always remember anyone who says this is the dead sea or theres no fish here is just a bad fisherman! :fishing2: :rocker; the lake is the healthiest it has been in 20 years.

Times forced those things to change not netting or the tribe its an easy scapegoat. Those resorts would have went under regardless. Also yes I believe the DNR the have experts and biologists who study these things. The resorts and resturaunts have been gone for years anywhere you go there are very few mom and pops its all incorporated its the way of the future wether any of us like it or not no need to get defensive and most of the resorts folded because the idiote built the highway so close to the lake and no one wants to cross 169 anymore because you cant. :blablabla: thats what your lame semi anti indian excuses sound like.

Oh,so lets pull the race card  :censored:,get a grip, here is a clue, the community as a whole started going south when our wonderful wisdomist DNR implimented the 1st slot for us "sportfishermen" folks soon decided not to travel/vacation to this world class fishery for 14"-16" fish, can't blame either, our state peolpe were and are so concerned they panic like last fall when very few walleyes tuned up in they're check traps last fall and there was talk about shutting the lake down two years ago in mid summer.

I simply Googled "treaty 1837" and it brought me to the MN DNR website. Most of the lingo was old and hard to follow, and the only thing I saw about indians and fishing was this.....

Article 5. The privilege of hunting, fishing, and gathering the wild rice, upon the lands, the rivers and the lakes included in the territory ceded, is guaranteed to the Indians, during the pleasure of the President of the United States.

I'm not sure where it talks about raping and pillaging natural resources either...........

I think it is time that the President and I have a little talk about pleasure.

This is not a "cultural issue", this is a matter of equality, something that America has strived for. Everyone should take a look back at the other "cultural things" that were occurring in 1837 when the treaty was signed and have been abolished because they were flat out wrong.

Allowing one "culture" to pillage a natural resource when it is most susceptible is not acceptable.

Again complacency is not the answer.

Who is we? and its already been decided at the highest court so I am not kidding myself. Also if you look at the issue going to court it has nothing to do with the treaty rights, but more so the county wasting tax dollars on boundary issues when the school systems up here fail horrendously, it just shows being ignorant and dumb still remains a top priority. :USA:
